Huskie Wire's Nitz Comments on treatment of Carey by Fans
Also appeared in Daily Herald today:

Quote:It's amazing how many anti-Rod Carey tweets our HuskieWire account sees, even during a win. How about giving the guy some credit? Carey now has a 21-5 record as a head coach. Yes, he's playing with mostly Jerry Kill/Dave Doeren players, and he can't fully be judged until he wins with his own guys. But for now, Carey certainly deserves a good grade.

I'll take 9-2 as a "rebuilding year" any time. Nitz is right, Carey has done a good job to this point

A lot of contributors are recruits under Carey.
I mean I'm not counting the Aurora group because they were all committed when Doeren was coach, but ducee is a carey guy.
You got Olootu, Smalls, Lurry, Saffold, and Blake all playing as true freshman. They aren't huge name players but the first two play a lot. All of them are special teams players.
He's showing his guys can play too.

I agree. Even if we happen to come out on the losing end next Friday, the season is a big success in my opinion. In the race for the MACC game with one game remaining. Not bad.

I agree with the article.
Carey deserves credit for getting this to team to maybe not "over-achieve" but certainly get the most out of their potential.
He's also certainly done things to deserve legit critique.
So basically he's like every one else in the world, except he's coaching our favorite team.

I give him credit. 3 weeks ago not many figured we would go 3-0
It isn't pretty but he gets the job done.

With losing our best defensive player and our 2nd best WR for the year. We have done really well. But Carey's in game decisions have been poor. We could easily have a 6-5 record. Players make plays. It's very rare we see a good offensive play call like that QB bootleg in the 4th qtr. Players have made plays and that the biggest difference

Mosley and Compton and Hagan all making contributions too. I agree with this too...he may actually be recruiting better than Doeren when you look at it.

Not to knock Carey at all but Ducee only came here with Roy Manning who was let go at UC and came here for a few months during signing day. That was the only reason we got him.

That's true, but Carey hired Manning.

Manning may be looking for work here pretty soon. Not sure if he stays on at Michigan once they hire a new coach (which I assume they will).

That was my point on Ducee. Yes it was manning but carey hired him. Then they played him immediately at a new position and it's now paying dividends.
And by all accounts ducee loves NIU when many including myself thought he may transfer.
I totally forgot about Compton and others.

We have our least impressive roster in half a decade and are in the conversation for an Access bowl. Anything else is details and bitching.

Probably the youngest roster since 2007 as well. I mean the contributors coming back next year is awesome.

Then maybe Indiana should certainly be looking at him after this season...

I would be surprised if they didn't have him as a finalist.

I think IU will be looking for someone with a higher profile. Also, he will competing for any job that becomes available with PJ the boat rower.
