No-knock raids claim more victims
http://filmingcops.com/my-2-yr-old-son-i...pitalized/

Quote:VENTURA — A family has filed a lawsuit after police threw an explosive smoke grenade inside their home that burned the body of their 2-year-old boy, according to a report released by Courthouse News Service.

It began when the Salinas family was sound asleep at around 4 AM last April.

They were startled and woken up by the sound of men moving around outside on their property, and heard boots scraping the ground.

Jose Salinas, the father, opened his curtains to see what was going on.

As he opened the curtains, he was terrified to see an officer pointing a gun directly at him through his window.

Immediately other officers began smashing in the windows of the home and lobbing smoke grenades into the home.
...
It turns out that police had been doing no-knock raids in their neighborhood to look for a “gang.”

The family was completely innocent, and none of them matched the description of the persons for whom police were searching.

“The incident left each member of the Salinas family physically and emotionally shaken, traumatized and in constant fear for their safety,” according to the lawsuit.

“They now feel that their home is a dangerous place to live and are scared to death and rattled by any noise they hear at night.”

That's a very bad move by the cops. Extremely unprofessional too. I'd sue the everliving crap out of them.

They were doing no knock raids in the neighborhood? Does that mean they were just randomly picking houses to raid? It kind of sounds that way considering this family's house was raided. I know there must be more to that part of the story, but this sounds completely reckless.

Sounds like a Section 1983 claim will be brewing on this one.

Yeah no doubt. It doesn't get much more irresponsible than that. If the cops ever raided my house out of pure "suspicion" and hurt any of my kids, I'd be livid. Beyond livid.

Fark.This.Shite.

All medical bills covered for the child.

All damaged property repaired to a standard above what was damaged in the raid.

$1,000,000 from the City payroll fund to the family and a city property tax exemption for as long as Jose Salinas lives in the residence.

Public apology from the Mayor, flanked by every elected city official and all the town employees.

Public apology from the Chief of Police and the officer leading the raid, flanked by the entire Police Department, Fire Department and EMS. Chief of Police takes a 30 day unpaid suspension but still has to work his normal responsibilities. The officers responsible for leading the raid, and the officers and employees responsible for the faulty intelligence suspended for 30 days without pay, and letters of reprimand placed into their files.

Tar & Feathers.

I want jail time for cops who do this.

I'm curious how you came up with the $1M fine?

But I'm with Torch.. Jail time for any officers who were responsible for this raid. (not sure about jail time for officers on the raid, since they were following orders)

And I'd demand the resignation of the Police Chief.

It seems like this is an issue that both people on the right and left don't agree with...yet the practice continues. What will it take to stop it?

$1M will provide proportional recompass to the family for their emotional distress and is a damaging financial penalty to the City for their lax oversight of a Police department that does not practice their due diligence.
