Texas A&M-SEC doesn't want to play Texas in a Bowl Game???...
From the article:
Two sources close to the situation told HornsDigest.com SEC officials have indicated to bowls with SEC and Big 12 tie-ins that the SEC won’t support a Texas vs Texas A&M postseason matchup. In short, A&M has too much to lose from a potential loss.
Right now, the Aggies and Kevin Sumlin are seen as the school to beat in the Lone Star State in recruiting. Why risk diminishing that status with just more than two months until National Signing Day?
Especially when UT and A&M have been head-to-head on so many key recruits.
Because the SEC handpicks which of its schools will play in the Outback, Gator, Belk, Liberty, Music City and Texas bowls, the conference known as the biggest, baddest bully on the block can make sure no fight is made unless they say it’s made.

I'm so glad we live in a world now where TAMU/UT, Kansas/Missouri and Pitt/WVU refuse to play each other. Really adds to the integrity of collegiate athletics.

It does make sense, it's just cowardly and sets a bad precedent.

This is coming from Chip "There is no truth to the rumor of A&M going to the SEC" Brown. He has no inside info and is pulling these sources out of his ass
Remember how UT said they'd never play us again? Apparently what they really meant was "we won't play you unless we think we've got a shot at winning" because there was none of this call to play us in the Cotton Bowl while JFF was here.
This is nothing but UT trying to control the narrative and shame us into giving them a shot at us while our defense is in the crapper and have a rookie freshman running the offense and stop our recruiting advantage. If we don't end up playing then they can claim "we ran away from them" win/win for them
So you know what?
Up yours Chip Brown and eff off you toupee wearing hack

Well they don't play any more at the very least. I can't claim to know the ins and outs of the situation, but they really should still do the Backyard Brawl annually. Then again, after 2007, I can see WVU not wanting a usually very mediocre Pitt team to spoil their season again.

I like this move for Texas A&M and the SEC. A&M wanted to continue playing Texas and Texas blackballed A&M from the Big XII Texas schools. A&M wants Texas as part of the regular season. When Texas decides it is important to renew the rivalry, A&M will be ready. Until then, Texas can boil in their bad blood and try to beat another SEC team.

I actually like Chip Brown a lot, but I have a *really* hard time believing that the SEC would interject based on recruiting. 99.9% of these are decisions are made purely on dollars and cents.

Also, it makes little sense to me that the SEC would worry about protecting Texas A&M recruiting but then sign several bowl agreements with the Big 12 where 40% of its members are in the state of Texas (plus Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are adjacent to the North Texas region). If you don't want to compete head-to-head with Texas-based schools for recruiting purposes, then the last league that you should be signing bowl contracts with is the Big 12.

To early for a matchup from these two to take place... Wounds are still very much fresh... I gave it 8 - 10 years from when a&m left the b12 to play UT again.
I'm not a fan of either of the two but if they ever did play each other, I think I would favor UT to run away with the W.

First, it's Chip Brown. His sources are UT sources, and you have to look at anything he writes with that in mind.
Second, teams have done things like this with bowl matchups. When the Liberty Bowl had the SEC and CUSA, the SEC got a guarantee that there would never be an in-state matchup like USM vs. Ole Miss or UCF vs. Florida. And you can be sure that if there was a Big Ten/MAC bowl, the Big Ten wouldn't permit the bowl to match Michigan with Western Michigan or Illinois with Northern Illinois. Etc., etc.

Exactly.
I would imagine that the ACC would do the same for NC State and/or Duke this year if it appeared they were going to be matched up with ECU in one of our bowls with an AAC tie-in.

I recall a game between NC State and ECU that was very well attended and virtually saved the Peach Bowl from an early demise.

For the record here, Mizzou has no problems playing Kansas. Lawrence says the game serves no purpose, as Kansas has moved on.

IMO, if you think your team has the advantage in recruiting or is the better team, why wouldn't you play the game? Go out and beat your rival and further separate yourself from them. Don't give a lame excuse to duck a quality opponent.
I would love for PITT and Penn St, Nebraska and Oklahoma etc... to start playing each other again. Granted this would be a bowl game and not regular season, but it is good for college football. Now with the playoff committee, I think renewing rivalry games like these will carry more weight if you win, as you get a OOC quality win against a rival. Also, once it expands to 8 teams and Power 5 champs get the automatic berth, you will see this happen.

Aztec,
The guy writing this is a tool of the UT administration who is making up a rumor to create a narrative to try and put pressure on the SEC to match A&M against UT because they think this is their best shot at beating us.
They didn't want to continue the annual rivalry game.
They didn't want to play us in the Cotton Bowl in 2012
But now they want this game to happen because they think they can take advantage of our injuries and inexperience to win and regain the upper hand in Texas recruiting.
"We'll only play you when we are confident we can win" is not how true rivalries work.
