Official statement: Aresco on the exclusion on Justin Hardy for the Biletnikoff
Commissioner Mike Aresco has issued the following statement in response to the announcement of the Biletnikoff Award semifinalists yesterday.

We were extremely disappointed to learn that Justin Hardy of ECUAthletics was not chosen as a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award. While we understand that there are a number of deserving candidates for this honor, anyone who has seen Justin play this year would have to conclude that he is among the best receivers in the nation.

Quite simply, Justin Hardy will finish his career as one of the all-time greats in college football. He is on the cusp of becoming the NCAA FBS career receptions leader, breaking one of the game’s most important records, and he has done it with great class and dignity. He has had an outstanding season in every respect.

Our extremely competitive conference has terrific players across the board, particularly, at the wide receiver position, and our schools have played the toughest nonconference schedule of any conference in the nation. Justin Hardy stands out in a very talented group and he deserves to be recognized.

Good job by Aresco putting out that statement. Hardy is an all time great having an amazing season. His exclusion is an embarrassment.

Regardless of my feelings on the matter, it's good to see a Commissioner who actively supports the programs in his conference to the national media.

It's not a career award.

That said, out of the Top 16 receivers in the nation in yards per game:

9 of 10 from P5 schools were named semifinalists
1 of 6 from G5 schools were named semifinalists

Hardy averages more yards per game than 6 of the semifinalists. He should have made it on this season alone.

UConn fans can remember the year that 2000+ yard (one season) RB Donald Brown was left off the Doak Walker finalists.

Ask not what your commissioner can do for you, instead ask what you can do for your commissioner.

Why? Because there is truth in the old adage: "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". What has it gotten us? Perhaps more than we know and perhaps more in the future. Another adage: "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again". The AAC will NOT give up and will NOT stop speaking up for ourselves.

Perhaps the most important part of Aresco's statement was: "our schools have played the toughest non-conference schedule of any conference in the nation". After thinking about that, I would say it is probably true and we should make sure that the public hears it.

My neighbor is an NFL agent. He told me Hardy is getting a ton of "juice" and being talked about a lot. I wish the best for him. At the South Carolina game a few years ago, I told his mother that he was going to be a special kid. Very happy for that family.
