Police using illegal search tools?
Perhaps some of you already know about 'stingrays'. This is new to me, and it's disturbing how the prosecutor may be aiding the police in breaking the law.

Of course this is the journalistic slant, so caveat emptor.

Another example of our new police state. Add in the fact that they are probably protected by the Patriot Act in some way. Yet it is about to be pushed through for another 3 years in congress. 03-banghead

I've never heard of one, but if it helps to find suspects that committed illegal crimes, and ONLY that, then I don't see a problem. However, not all cops are good cops and I could see them tracking down an ex or an enemy.

Exactly. Kind of like the people who were okay with the Patriot Act in 2001 because "I'm not doing anything illegal thus I don't care" but now are pissed that the NSA is completely using it to their advantage. As usual with the federal gov't there is a law of unintended consequences.

That's what worries me about this stingray device. I just can't trust the government anymore. It's like we're on our own.

When 2 parties are incentivized to lie, cheat, and steal to maintain power then you get what we have today. That simple.

The only thing that the 2 parties hate more than each other are any other parties that could take away from their power. They enjoy the current arrangement because it guarantees them the power while acting like we have a real "choice" in how our gov't runs.
