Game #3 LSU 11/21
ODU vs. LSU 1st. Rnd. Paradise Jam 11/21 6:30 CBS Sports Network

LSU..
2-0, Gardner Webb 93-82, Texas Tech 69-64 OT

Probable Starters...

Josh Gray #5 G 6'1" 183 JR. (Juco) led all Juco scores last season 34.7 ppg.

Keith Hornsby #4 G 6'4" 210 Jr. (X-Fer UNC-A)

Jarell Martin #1 F 6'10" 235 So. All-SEC Fr. Team avgd. 10.3 ppg., 4.6 rpg.

Elbert Robinson #3 C 7'1" 270 Fr.

Jordan Mickey #25 F 6'8" 235 So. Started all 34 games as Fr. All-SEC 2nd. Team, avgd. 12.7 ppg., 7.9 rpg., 3.1 bpg (106)

Prominent bench players..

Tim Quartermane #55 G 6'6" 187

Against TT the Tigers shot 40% from the field, but only 10.5 % from the arc (2-19.)
They outrebounded the Red Raiders 47-46, and shot 65% from the stripe 15-23.

The Tigers have talented size at the forward, and guard positions, but their bench, though deep and tall, seems relatively young and inexperienced (excluding Quartermane.) I think ODU actually has superior depth and can win this game. IMO the Monarchs need to challenge the post early and often and try to get into the bench. Hornsby, Gray, and Quartermane are talented and have good size (esp. Quartermane at 6'6" off the bench.) Hopefully our bigs can help get some good shots on the perimeter for Baker, Mosely, and Co. Also, hopefully both ODU's 3 pt. accuracy, and LSU's inaccuracy carry over from their most recent games.

GO MONARCHS!!!

Do we have any expectation of coverage for this game? Internet? TV? Just radio?

Some of us aren't fortunate enough to be present in the islands...hah.

Denzell Taylor guarding Jordan Mickey will be a sight to be seen. One of the few players Mickey will face all season that has the footwork to deal with him.

So best case scenario from SOS perspective would be LSU -> ISU -> Clemson?

Actually, it is Atlantic Standard time, one hour ahead of us on the east coast, so the 6:30 start time is accurate.

Good catch!

LSU has a NBA front line. Martin and Mickey could have came out last year as freshmen. Hornsby will be permitted the space to become Luke Hancock with that supporting cast. They look like a Sweet 16 team, a lot like Baylor from 2010.

Game is showing up on Cox listings. As long as we keep winning, the games will be on TV. If we lose, we will be relegated to radio or a firstrow feed.

Martin and Michey might be future NBA but I think: Ross/Taylor/Aldridge can give them fits. Nobody jumps and is strong like Ross. Ross is all sports allstar. I just hope Bacote gets back into the offensive flow for this one. We will need everybody contributing.

Some thoughts from the LSU fans: http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/p/537...pm-friday/

Ironically enough, they talk more about about the possibility of playing Gardner-Webb twice then about the next game against ODU.

Also, I'm not sure if this is the main LSU board but it seems to have decent traffic.

That's their main board.

We will absolutely need a big game from bacote in this one.

Our depth will help, but their size will probably neutralize a lot of our second chance points and easy baskets.

Attacking the rim, trying to draw fouls on their bigs and limiting their second chance points will be huge.

Should be a good game, I think we have fairly evenly matched teams.

Honestly, with this game being held in a HS gym, I expect our shooters to struggle with the f'ed up sight lines. Even the year we won this tournament, we shot like crap for most of it. This favors LSU. Ross, Alredge, and Taylor are going to be huge.

Agree with those points. Our slashers, Bacote, Palmore and Freeman need to get in there and get try to get the the line early.

Hopefully since they arrived in the VI yesterday they have time to get several good practices in and acclimate to that. Three pointers could definitely be the difference in this game as the Tigers appear to struggle with them.

LSU is long, athletic and talented. Yet, last year, they were far less than the sum of their parts. In the game I watched against Texas Tech, they were terrible for most of the game and got away with it at the end. Their shot selection wasn't great and they weren't very disciplined. I think we have a puncher's chance, to be sure.
