Hope they are paying folks a good wage to clean up the field and parking lots, etc. (in case anyone shows up).

Amherst is 10 miles north of the lake effect snow bands that caused all the problems yesterday. There is like three (3) inches of snow on campus. There were be no problem cleaning the field or parking lots.

Wow. 10 miles is the difference between say 3" and 3 - 6 feet?

I'm tempted to crack a joke, that tonight's crowd will be very localized.

Washington Post has an article with E. Amherst at 0.8".

So some got 1" (almost) and others over 5 feet.

Life just isn't fair...

Why is U Buffalo in Amherst? 03-banghead

Look, criticize the MAC all you want, but when we say a school is in Bowling Green or Kent, it's in BG or Kent! When we say a school is in Toledo or Miami...never mind.

If UB is in Amherst, then they might as well be in a conference with IUP or CUP. And it's my dream that some day one of those teams will face Pittsburg State in the D-II title game.

RE: O/T(?): The Weather (Story of the Niagra hoops team)
Glad Kent State made it to UB. The forecasters knew the band would be stationary yesterday so it made sense to take the roundabout route to Amherst and NOT postpone the game. My parents live 5 mins from campus and said they had bright blue sky for much of yesterday and almost no snow.

If you've never been in a lake effect snow squall or driven through one, it's quite an experience. When you're in it, you think the world is coming to an end and the snow will never stop. When you drive out of it, you're like "what's the big deal? it's a beautiful day". It's one thing very unique about living in WNY.

Quick answer, Suburban flight in the 60's. The original parts of the University of Buffalo are in the City of Buffalo. After the formation of SUNY, a new, modern campus was built on a large, open swamp in the northern suburb of Amherst.

West Michigan is the same way. One side of Kalamazoo has a foot of snow the other has an inch or two.

That's okay, I thought of an Eastern attendance joke when I read a comment in the thread talking about the game being canceled.

There is a time lapsed video of the storm, a night time areial picture of half of Buffalo buried under clouds and snow white the other half lights up the nighttime sky and there are other pictures depicting the fine between 3" and 6-7'.

So I wouldn't say it is the 10 mile distance that makes a difference in how much snow you get. I would say that what side if the street you live on makes all the difference.
