He would have been unprepared as he was each of his seasons to start the season. I was not a big JJ fan, but I now see he was not the problem. I see who the problem was/is. He is still here. I apologize Joe and Chris and Shaq.

Joe would've really helped this team.
just having Joe handle the ball would have cut down on 10-12 turnovers at least. remarkable that we have assembled a team without a single guard that can handle the ball really well and set up an offense. a VCU or Louisville press right now might result in 40 turnovers with our guards. You can have all the raw talent in the world (not sure we do) but if you dont actually have a guard that can handle the ball and set up your half court set like a QB, you are screwed. We'll be even deeper at the 3-5 positions next year, but who is going to play PG? we seem to have a team full of players at all positions except for PG. Kedren is probably the only one that is like a true PG, and he is clearly nowhere near what he once was, or he was overrated or something, but so many of these turnovers today were just amateur hour - D-1 guards are going to have some turnovers, but many today - traveling, throwing terrible passes on the perimeter just trying to swing the ball, etc., those were bad.

Sad to say this is about coaching.

RE: If JJ played today...
Sad to say, it's not!!
He has 10 first time players that have had a total of 4 pracices in which a major contributor hasn't been hurt.
I love how everyone thinks how just because cal did it here, it SHOULD be done EVERY year!!!!
Ok, let me get you to ponder this.... how many runs has kensucky had like they have had under cal?!!! That is one of the top programs in the nation, curious how many times they have had a dominant stretch like they have had under cal?!
Now, I can't stand cal as a person and not a huge fan as a coach, but I can at least admit and respect what he has done. I love how almost every other coach listed as replacement haven't come close to doing what they assume they would do here... oh well, it is what it is.

Kentucky has had a lot of runs like they have had with Cal.. They are where they are because they dont tolerate losing, or anything less but the best. Teams don't win championships by accident. And we aren't going to be anything more than we are until we make changes. Nobody is saying we should be final four every year. But at Memphis in year 5 or 6 you should have an Elite 8 on your resume.

So people missing practice affects teaching the other players what they should be doing on offense...Teaching how to throw a post entry pass...Teaching how to make safe passes around the perimeter

RE: If JJ played today...
No, but installing an offense, setteling on the primary starters, working on defense and gelling as a team does take time.
Remember all the times we had to have "camp cal" in order to start looking like a team, that wasn't done in preseason.
When has ky had multiple runs like this. He is moving towards UCLA runs and that has only been done once!!!
Ok, more importantly, when has that ever been done at Memphis. How many coaches in Memphis history have Elite 8s by year 5?

They are where they are because they have a lottery pick and 2 other first rounders on every team.
