Eddie Gran Offense
Credit where credit is due after a slow start last year Eddie Gran has turned the offense into quite the machine. UC set a number of offensive records for the university last year and have been great this year. Tommy G just posted to me the craziest stat of the year on twitter: the Bearcats have had 35 Redzone trips this season and 32 Touchdowns in those trip. On it's own that is incredible efficiency, but then consider 2 of the 3 non-td trips were situations where the Bearcats kneeled to run out the clock and the number is even more insane. Basically in 33 trips to the redzone where they Bearcats tried to score they have 32 tds, no turnovers and one field goal attempt (which was missed).

People gave Gran a lot of **** and I think there were some issues last year early where Gran adjusted to a new roster and being an offensive coordinator for the first time, but he really seems to be a talented guy who has quickly grown into the job.

Gran is getting the pieces he needs in place, yes. But it doesn't hurt to have a stud future NFL QB throwing the ball.

No doubt there is a ton of talent on the offensive side of the ball, but he is really capitalizing with the talent. I'm not sure I've ever seen red zone efficiency numbers that great.

Thanks Mark, that is a crazy stat. I wish Tommy would keep that quiet. As I have posted here, I hope we can keep Gran.

Edit, Gantz is 4-4 from 20-29 yards, according to UC

Interesting. Not sure where Tommy G pulled the numbers from then.

My bet is FG came after a penalty which pushed them out of redzone. But that is a crazy stat.

Field goals from the red zone can be longer than 30 yards. A field goal from the 15 yard line is 32 yards, for example.

The one Gantz missed was from inside the 19 during the Memphis game. He miss a chip shot.

That is mind-blowing redzone efficiency.

All of the anger and hatred directed at Gran has not gone away, it has simply shifted its target to Hughes.

....He tried to run a power offense with a team that wasn't built for it, he stubbornly made a 165 lbs scat back run between tackles and he took what should have been a very good spread team and made them do much of their work under center. Gran earned it.

Um,,and rightly so. Stats? do those justify jumping up and down at our
defensive efforts?

Plus, i'd rather the complaints be expressed. At least it's not apathy..

RE: Eddie Gran Offense
As more of CTT skill recruits see the field on offense, I think we will start to move away from the spread and move towards a more pro style of offense. CTT said when he first got here that he wanted to run a pro style offense, but he didn't have the players to do it. I think he's starting to get there. Really can't wait to see what Boone can do in his Jr. with Sr. Gunner Kiel at the helm (assuming Gunner doesn't leave early).

RE: Eddie Gran Offense
These stats are blatantly incorrect. UC is 32 of 35 but with only 23 TD's (not 32) and 9 FG's.

http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/703

Still good for 9th in the nation.

A red zone field goal could be as long as 37 yards.

Guess I should have read more before commenting.

That sounds more reasonable. The ones that Tommy G tweeted were pretty unheard of. I'd never heard of a team having redzone numbers like that. Still the offense is having another huge season. What I've been really impressed with is how it has adjusted through injuries to the offensive line and running backs. (And with Kiel missing time)

Agreed. After the 2015 we will lose all of these talented WRs leaving only Nate Cole, Tshumbi Johnson, Jeremy Graves (among returning players) and the recruits we get this year. However, our backfield will be loaded with powerful runners Boone, Tion Green (if he gets a medical redshirt), EJ Junior and our recruits from this year (Taylor Boose is a hoss). If I were a betting man I would say Gunner will be playing on Sundays in 2016 and we will have either Hayden Moore or Ross Trail at QB.
