Man, we just lost an exhibition to a D2 team, and now we open with #11 Wichita State, returning 4 starters from a 35-1 that lost to UK by 2 points in the E8.

We all hope for the upset. I just hope we don't get killed.

Nice "fire for effect" post. Obviously, the AAC will never admit basketball-only schools. It didn't work in the Big East and it won't work here.

from the 70s through 2012 it seemed to work...

There was no Big East football conference prior to 1990, and the destruction of the conference was directly due to disagreement between basketball and football members about potential members.

It wasn't just football vs. basketball, it was public football vs. private basketball. The Big East as constructed today would be more likely to take Notre Dame or Boston College than it would Wichita State or VCU, both of whom would be good fits in the American as large public schools with good basketball, even if neither school ever lets a leather oblong fly on campus.
