The one thing that would keep him from going, according to the report, is that he would be in the same division as his brother who is the Kentucky coach.

Hmmm......For someone who has a clause in his OK contract that he is to be paid in the top 3 range of college coaches, his teams always seem to disappoint. Didn't see that possibility of him going to Fla.

I read somewhere Stoops gave a Calipari answer when asked. "I want to be a candidate for the Oklahoma job and that's it" or something like that.

Florida is a top 3 job in the country, tbh. Pretty much an automatic top 10 recruiting class every year as long as the coach knows what they're doing.

Tennessee about to lose another 10 in a row.04-cheers

Not really they had good runs under two coaches but have been so so with three of their last five hires. Except for Urban Myers and Steve Spurrier there really have not been any big winners. Outside those two you have to go back to the 1920s to find a coach who won at least 70% of his games.

Based on recent history here we would be glad to have coaches win 53%-68% of their games but they do not at U of Florida. They do not consider 7-4 seasons a successful season.

I am sorry, the last 20 years, of which they have almost as many National Championships as anyone, not to mention the recruiting area of FL, with the perception of the $EC... FL IS one of the top jobs in the nation.

And saying without Spurrier and Urban is like saying well other than the last 7 Championships, the $EC isn't that impressive since 2000...
Are they the best team, no. But, that isn't what is being argued. When cal took the job at ky, they weren't one of the best teams in the nation.... but still one of the top jobs.
Florida does have to work on their facilities. They should be among the best in the $EC, but they aren't even the the top 3 in the East.

They had GREAT runs under two coaches, and even their down coaches of late still won...but nowhere near big enough.

They were also really good before Spurrier. Even in the 1980s they were a national player. The only team to beat Miami in 1983, and beat them badly. Went 9-2-1, followed by 9-1-1 twice, which would have won the SEC but for probation.

Spurrier won the Heisman in 1966.

Even the 1970s, which were down, had lots of bowls.

It is a premiere job. Period. Nebraska is premiere and cannot get over the hump. Florida will be fine. Memphis basketball on the other hand, rough start with Wichita State, need better guard play, more work, would be surprised if that does not happen. Mockers will enjoy no doubt, but our kids will play better.

Actually agree on all your points. Just had to point it out since it rarely seems to happen.

RE: Dallas radio was reporting Bob Stoops from OK to Florida
Stoops would be a home run hire for UF. He seems comfortable where he is and he's having success...guys usually don't leave elite programs when those 2 things are true.

UF is a top 5 program, despite the AD neglecting their football facilities over the last few years. As a whole...Top 5.

That being said, look at who they've hired as of late:

Homegrown HC at Duke that went 8-4 (Spurrier)
Middle of the road DC for the Saints (Zook)
Hot name mid-major HC from Utah (Meyer)
Hot name DC from Texas (Muschamp)

Point being, to be a Top 5 program, they don't go get guys like Bob Stoops. We just saw Texas go through the same thing...another Top 5 program.

I don't see them going the "home run route" with Chip Kelly or John Gruden.
I don't see a proven, comfortable coach leaving a winning situation - Patterson or Stoops
I can't see them going the "re-tread" route with Mack Brown or Mike Shannahan.
I can't see them going the "mid major route" with Mark Hudspeth, Justin Fuente or Jim McElwain (most likely if they did)
Apparently Rich Rod and Dan Mullen are off the list (that's a mistake on Foley's part)

I'd assume the UF list of coaches who would take the job looks like (in no order):

Todd Graham
Mike Gundy
Larry Fedora (dark horse IMO)
etc.
