Nonconference H&H in the same season.
Are you in favor of having a nonconference home-and-home in the same season and if so, who would you like to see twice on the schedule??

UCSB had a same season h&h with Wyoming in '12-'13, Utah State last year and this year, it's Florida Gulf Coast. I wouldn't mind scheduling one with Akron, UNM, Utah, Fresno or SDSU.

RE: Nonconference H&H in the same season.
There was a time (not recent) when Tulane and UNO played 2x a season in MBB and (IIRC) WBB, too. It was an intense rivalry for a while and the students came out in force for both games. It broke down because Tim Floyd (UNO coach) and Perry Clark (Tulane) didn't get along.

I'm not sure if the magic could be recaptured now, or not. Personally, I'd be willing to try it and see, but I don't sense much interest on Tulane's part.

In basketball...no issues. It was done often in the 60s and 70s.

As a Wake Forest fan, there is no one I would want to play home and home with outside of the ACC. All of our major rivals are in conference.

Now there are a few teams I would like to see become annual non-conference opponents. We already play Richmond every year. Wouldn't mind seeing Davidson become one as well.

New Mexico, New Mexico State and UTEP all do H-H with each other every year.
They don't mind. It's not that bad in basketball.

Yes. Georgia/Georgia Tech and LSU/Tulane did that for several years even after Tech and Tulane left the SEC.

Tonight was our first ever meeting with FGCU and it was a fun game at their place, even though we lost. I can't wait for round two when they come to Santa Barbara in January.

Ya know, maybe we should play FGCU on a more regular basis.

Xavier and UC played twice a year in the 60s and 70s. I think UC occasionally did that with Louisville too in the years we weren't in the same conference.

I don't see much point in it unless it's going to be a long-term contract. If you're going to use up 2 OOC games, it better be because you're building up a rivalry. A 1-year home and home doesn't make much sense.

UC should play Dayton, Louisville, Miami, and NKU annually before we bother playing 2 games against Xavier.

I'd be in favor of UConn agreeing to same year h&h's with any top 25ish team. It would help offset some of the RPI dregs lurking at the bottom of the AAC.

I also would't mind doing it with some old Big East teams like Providence, BC, Pitt, Nova, St John's, etc for some good rivalry games.

We need to be meeting every year in MSG (Cuse/UConn).

Having one game in MSG and a 2nd game at the Dome or XL would be great for TV but the ACC is already tough enough...I don't see 2 games a year happening.

Agree with both of you. I wish UCONN's OOC schedule was made to look like the old Big East conference play. 03-banghead

I purposely left Cuse out of the teams I listed. An annual matchup at the Garden would be perfect for those two teams.

UCLA and Notre Dame of course did this throughout the 70's and into the mid 80s it is a wonder in the ESPN era that they stopped. I would not mind seeing something like this return. UW does not really have any national hoops rival so just scheduling a power each season would be perfect.

What I would like to see is the four NC schools playing twice a year by scheduling a non-conference game in seasons when they are only scheduled to play once in league play. What would really be cool is if that could create a doubleheader in Greensboro, but I think it could only be done if UNC and Duke did not play each other (since they always play home and home already).

Even if said top 25ish team was located west of the Rockies?

Does UCSB and FGCU sound like it has potential to become a long-term contract, or even rivalry? Last night was our first ever meeting and it went into overtime. I can't wait for the rematch in Santa Barbara and I could see FGCU becoming a fixture on the schedule.

Not UNC Charlotte?

UConn is playing at Stamford this year - has had recent series with UWashington and Gonzaga and has Arizona lined up in the next few years.

So I don't think geography plays too much into the existing scheduling philosophy - if this H&H idea ever happened I'd imagine that it still would not affect their mindset.

It's good for recruiting to play a few games a year outside of your region.
