Question for the SBC refugees
Was over on the SBC board and they have a thread in which they are (rightfully) slamming the quality of SBC football officials. My question for the former SBC teams, do you think the quality of C-USA officiating is better, worse or about the same as what we had in the other conference?

RE: Question for the SBC refugees
I would put CUSA on par or better than WAC officials. There were several head scratchers back in the WAC days. SEE Hawaii vs Tech 2011.

RE: Question for the SBC refugees
At our games this year, I would say the officials have been way more consistent.

RE: Question for the SBC refugees
Yep, much better. In previous years after games I couldn't honestly say the officials hadn't affected the outcome. So far in C-USA, everything has been called pretty spot on.

RE: Question for the SBC refugees
I've seen a few calls that were awful and at least one non call that affected the out come of WKU vs UAB...

If a player is on your side of the line when the ball is snapped it's offsides. Everyone saw it in the stadium even the UAB sideline UAB's coach threw his his hands up and turned around pissed then turns around to see it wasn't called..it was 4th and 3. Well everyone but the refs saw it

I tend to agree that the officials in C-USA are better than the ones we had in the other conference. More consistent and much more sure of the calls they're making, in other words there's much less huddling up to make sure they are right. I was especially curious to hear from you WKU folks since this is your first go around in C-USA.

RE: Question for the SBC refugees
We can always complain about the refs, but my god, there were some awful ones in the Belt.

Football - better in CUSA. Not that officials don't make mistakes, they do, but not as many as coaches or players. Officiating is much more consistent than in Sun Belt. The only thing I question consistently is the spot.
MBB - This could differ by area. In Texas the officials are drawn from the same pool as are those who ref Big12 and Sun Belt games, and other conferences in the area. Big 12 gets the best, we get 2nd best, better than the Belt. As I understand it, a different pool operates in the southeast. Oddity: the Big12 hasn't usually played conference games on Thursday so we get better refs then than we do on the weekend.
WBB - similar setup to MBB but the officiating in WBB in UNTs home games ranges from bad to ridiculous. Wildly inconsistent not only game to game, but within games. Often don't operate as a team. This is not an excuse for our poor start, we have gotten more calls in our favor than the visitors have. Different people from those officiating Belt games, no better.

I can't speak for the SBC, but moving from the CAA to CUSA was a breath of fresh air. The CAA officiating in BB and FB are deplorable.

RE: Question for the SBC refugees
Sun Belt had some real bad refs, we all knew it, we don't talk too much about it
It was no real big secret, all the same, somehow we got around it

RE: Question for the SBC refugees
Across the board CUSA refs are better.

SBC refs are pretty bad. Not as bad as ACC, but close.

On a side note I'm pretty sure we unfortunately had Ron Cherry for the UM-FSU game. I threw my hands up in frustration when I saw him walk on the field.

Tech came over from the WAC but the refs are for the most part better in CUSA.

I was thinking the same thing Nasty... Considering how bad we KNOW ours are, I guess I should be grateful I've never really watched an SBC game if theirs are worse!
