UAB's Future
Rumor I'm hearing.....The decision to continue or do away with UAB football is supposed to be determined by December 15th. Lets keep our fingers crossed that we get good news. I'd hate to see UAB football go away.

I suspect the decision has already been made.

RE: UAB's Future
It's already been said the decision will be announced shortly after the last game. That leads me to believe they already know what they are going to say.

Quote:"Clark said he was told UAB's report, written by consultant Bill Carr, will come out shortly after the season concludes Nov. 29.

RE: UAB's Future
I really try not to read to much into signs and portents, but nothing good seems to be coming out of UAB's administration concerning this report. It would seem that if the report is coming out after football season, some hope (if there was hope to give) would accompany that message in a statement such as "there is no reason for Blazer fans to be overly concerned. Our commitment to athletics will remain strong, although we aren't in a position to give particulars at this time." They really aren't being fair to UAB fans, it seems, in a bunch of ways.

How many threads does it takes to announce the death of UAB Football?

Doesn't sound good at all for football at UAB. Maybe ODU can steal some defense and linemen from them. :) The bigger question is does CUSA manage to keep UAB? I would hate to lose UAB sports all together. They are one of the better basketball teams in the league. I hope they stay either way. My gut says the A10 is courting them, but they won't take anyone with football.

RE: UAB's Future
This sucks. My gut feeling is that if it was good news there would be no reason to wait. Can your administration not be getting an injunction ready to stay there decision? Also can you not get the ball rolling for separation from the UA system? You can clearly run as an independent state university. Seems you've been doing it without any help for a long time.

CUSA bylaws require schools to field a football team.

RE: UAB's Future
Would UAB cease football immediately ?

What have other universities done, in this situation ? (i.e. have dropped football)

I think UAB will keep its football program. In fact, this was all orchestrated as a means to improve the financial support UAB sports get from the Birmingham business community.

This is kinda what I think. I have a feeling the decision was already made and the report is simply to provide cover for the administrators.

RE: UAB's Future
I think ALL of us conference mates are rooting for UAB to keep football. We are your biggest advocates.

I love the fact that we can drive 3 hours to The Ham (if you hit it hard, you can make it in 2.5 depending on how many peeing females you have in the car)

It is a travesty to think that Bama could shut down your program. Would that somehow give ut-obKnoxiousville ammunition for shutting MT football down in the future ? The highest board of which UT has most all of the power (THEC) is still the ruling organization over our board of regents (TBOR).

But I also think the "what if" scenarios should be discussed, as well.

I can't come up with one solid reason 'to keep' would not be announced immediately......

sorry, but that's the cold hard truth of it.....

I also wouldn't see other schools follow this path over the next decade or so...
