NIU beats OU 21-14, Miami has a chance to play spoiler and knock out the Kittens from a bowl next Tuesday.

RE: Nick's Picks Week #13
Have they determined which channel Miami/OU and Akron/KSU will be? One is ESPN2, the other is 3 unfortunately. Pretty similar games when you think about it, they'll both have a team go on the road against a losing rival in search of bowl eligibility.

yeah the irony of the two situations is noteworthy! it's pretty cool.
I just looked at ESPN's Web site and they both still say ESPN2. last night one of the announcers said the Ohio-Miami game will be on ESPN2 but I'm sure he doesn't know anything. so, I guess the answer to your question is no!

RE: Nick's Picks Week #13
Biggest question I have about tonight's UT-BG game has nothing to do with the Rockets.
With BG having already clinched the East and really nothing else to play for the last 2 weeks, despite this being a rivalry game, does Babers take his foot off the gas a little this week? Maybe some key guys who are carrying injuries sit the entire game this week? What's it look like, BG faithful?

Nope...Babers understands the "optics" of this game and the team feels like they gave last year's game away (thank you Shaun Droplin). They want the win too badly to half ass anything...

Even if key guys get hurt in this game and are lost for the season?

I would say with BG already clinched they can come out and play loose and aggressive. if toledo doesnt stop the long ball, BG could score a lot of points tonight. also, its snowing hard right now in Toledo but supposed to stop around 6

Id say BG wont be as "gunning" to win as much with the possibility of impactful injuries due to the weather that could derail a defending championship.
I think on paper and in the media, BGSU wants to go all out, especially losing 4 straight, but I think they'll play softer.

As somebody who went up against Babers in an everything to win nothing to lose game last year when he was at EIU, I expect him to pull out all the stops. He played the NIU/EIU game last year like he was a 14 year old playing Madden.

What does that mean..."play softer"? Like they're going to play two hand touch or something...maybe politely ask Kareem Hunt to fall down instead of drilling him in the ribs?
no..hell no...they want to win...they need to win...they're going all in.

UMass 35 – Akron 23
The Minutemen are 6th in the nation in passing offense and Blake Frohnapfel should have another big outing. The Zips have lost 4 straight and their bowl opportunities have now evaporated.
NIU 24 – Ohio 20
This should be a very good game, likely low scoring given the weather conditions and the nature of each other’s offense.

BGSU 29 – Toledo 23
This may be a preview of the MACC next month in Detroit if Toledo wins out and NIU loses to Western next week…I see a close game with the Falcons finding a way to win as Coach Campbell has yet to show that his teams can win the November games that matter.
Buffalo 26 – Kent State 22
Tough game to pick as each has very little to play for; considering UB’s big performance last week against Akron they certainly showed that they have more offensive weapons than KSU this season.
Saturday, November 22 2014
Western 35 – Central 30
There are many MAC fans that feel this is truly the league’s most fierce rivalry and not BG/Toledo; look for a lot of big hits in this contest as both teams are vying for a quality post season game.
Ball State 24 – Eastern 17
The Cards are trying to finish the season on an upswing going into 2015 while EMU is trying to rid itself of their last two performances against Central & Western.
Nick nearly nails the NIU v Ohio score again - nobody does it better!

Yes.
Just pay no attention to the score of the other game last night.

RE: Nick's Picks Week #13
Kind of O/T but relevant to the weather:
Should MAC schools find a way to 'enclose' more seats from the elements?
E.g., take 500 or 1K seats below the press box and turn them into enclosed club seats? (in addition to suite seating).
Don't race tracks essentially have enclosed grandstands?
Anything to defeat below freezing wind chills.

Good point, but I think club seating is just too expensive of an investment for many schools to undertake when money is hard to come by.
Still, one would think that even a small, basic roof on both sides would cut into the wind, block some fans from the rain or August sun, and would help keep the noise in the stadium. One of the reasons Oregon is so tough to play on the road is how the seats are on top of the field and the roof keeps the sound in, in addition to blocking the frequent rain of the Pacific NW.

Every MAC team is now required to have a dome. There would be no more complaints about low attendance because the weather is bad. Issued solved. (sarcasm)
In all seriousness, I do wonder if one MAC team had a dome if their attendance would go up. Sense Akron is the loser in attendance this year, I nominate them!

Campbell found a way in spite of turnovers. Bg racked up the penalty yards and only had a few fluid drives. Much like vs. NIU Toledo made it look easy to score on them, or stiffened up in the redzone. UT now with wins over WMU, CMU, and BG. I wouldnt say we are a major dissapointment...

Indeed, a tough game to pick.
No one had it as a postponement except maybe a Buffalo meteorologist.

Toledo may in fact be a bad team. However, on the field they have defeated Western, BGSU and Central. Power ranking ought to be no lower than #2.
