Can it be the best time for UAB athletic in a long run ?
First the expensive study show that UAB football lose money (scientific study :))
Second UAB football die from it
Third because of 1 and 2, finally UAB is able to get away from the BOT
Fourth UAB with is own BOT got football back
Firth UAB is back in the SUNBELT
Sixth UAB dominated the SUNBELT on the field and outside the field (OCS , indoor facility, school etc )
Seventh UAB is invited and accepted a bid to a major conference
Eighth UAB became the dominant team in Alabama because young athletes dont want to stay in small town with nothing to do
Ninth Brian was right :)

That is a 50 year timetable you just suggested. So it will be exciting for my kids, scratch that... Grand-kids... And my children are only 7 & 11.

SMU never recovered and Marshall took 20 plus years. Kill football even for just a short while, will be devastating. Coaches and players will be reluctant to ever come to UAB. I don't think you need to destroy it to save it.

Um... we're not destroying it.

To take one step back in this situation is imminent defeat, & I thought that "defeat" was a word that UAB does not know the meaning of!03-lmfao That BOT has been screwing our football program over every chance it got & continues to do so, this season's living proof, one thing they tell you to show them proof of support, then when the proof presents itself, they pull this bull****, it's just like what Lucy does to Charlie Brown in "Peanuts" when she invites him to place kick the football...Compromise to a point becomes surrender...As a fan and Blazer Booster, I've had enough. This had better resolve itself favorably for our football program, because "knowledge" is going to change their world if it doesn't.

I remember suggesting something similar to this several years back when Callaway got here and was lambasted for it...In retrospect, I see why now...This reminds of the panhandlers in the movie "Pale Rider", everytime they have a bit of good fortune digging for gold, the outlaws would ride thru their camp, burn down their tents, shoot their dogs, run off their livestock and take advantage of their women. That's what happening with UAB as it relates to this BOT, but no tall stranger on a pale horse is going to ride over Red Mountain to come save us.

That was precisely the analogy I was thinking of. The scene when the panhandlers go to town and demand Lehood come out and show his face. He comes out, shows his face and his bodyguards proceed to fill the panhandler with lead.

I wasn't suggesting that we were destroying it. I was suggesting that any " grand hosing" from the "study" is equivalent to death.

"Spider" Lockhart was the victim in that scene, "LaHood's" hired guns, "Marshall Stockburn" & his "Deputies"...That is one hell of a movie, I never get tired of watching it, just wish it didn't remind me of our school's plight with this BOT.

03-lmfao
I stand corrected, he fits the profile and agreed, he needs all the help we can offer that he can accept...Question is, will be the "Stranger With No Name" that moves on & leaves the town painted crimson and burned damn near to the ground , or "The Outlaw Josey Wales" that settles in and is part of a renaissance at the end? Damn, you are sharp!

RE: Can it be the best time for UAB athletic in a long run ?
The state legislature will not allow the cash cow of the system to leave the ranch. Thus, we will never be free to restart a program of our own making. The most realistic best case is that the program survives due to watts realizing he is killing the billion dollar fund raiser along with football, mackin doing whatever it takes to keep clark here, and uab getting at least one third representation on the bot. But All of this hinges on watts and the decisions he makes in the next few weeks. Does he build on volkers and bartows vision of athletics as an ambassador for uab to a sports crazed culture, or does he burn it down and try to rebuild a sickly version of an affordable program that will draw less attention than samfords program?. In a state where football is king and football recruiting is queen, why bank on the jack otherwise known as basketball? I suspect watts may be a tin eared academic elitist with no idea of how to connect to the people and students of our state and region. He is lost in the dollars and the pressure of the board, and is not in touch with the reality of our alumni or our state culture. If he kills football he spits in the face of volker and bartow and garrison et al. He will leave a legacy of infamy unlike few others in this state.

Who is communicating this to our student body? Where are our greek organizations and the band and the student government? Where are the peaceful picket lines with signs and people camping on the sidewalk? This is that level of importance for the future relevance of uab in this state.
