Which posts did that in this thread?

It was stating that some are flame, basically others are defending<---- Better word? and some are a real valid discussions talking about Pastner and the direction of the program...

Yeah, I'd say that's a big difference in painting them as blind followers who claim he can do no wrong.

That narrative is pushed here by way too many people and I don't ever see these passionate Pastner fans acting like "he can do no wrong" and never admitting the man has shortcomings or doesn't need to get better.

We had 1, Miss J, but she was run off long ago.

I said "IF" this is a down year/rebuilding year.

I also said that "IF" the "PEAK" of the program is a "BLOWOUT LOSS" in the round of 32.

My statements are clear.

The peak of the University of Memphis Men's Basketball Team should not EVER be the round of 32 much less a blowout loss in the game. So far that's all we have gotten. So with that as of right now being the "PEAK" of the program under Josh followed by this season which may be a "transition" year with 10 new players is not reflective of the "MILLIONS" poured into the program, nor the level Memphis needs to be at.

As I said, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt even with the bad 2-4 record in 6 preseason contests. I think the team will improve as the back court improves and CBU/Canada/St. Louis will be a bad memory and not the start of one of the worst seasons in Memphis basketball history as some seem to think.

Let's be patient. He either produces or he doesn't.

If he doesn't, he can have fun going back to being an assistant coach somewhere, retiring early, or taking over Houston Community College.

If he does, we're in good shape.

This season and next season are his chance to shine. It's on his shoulders at this point.

I love what Pastner personally represents. He's a good man, family man, who cares about every single person around him. I love the fact he can recruit, and develop kids into respectable young men with bright futures. He runs a clean, honest program that won't face the NCAA executioners while he's here.

However, he still has to advance further in the tourney, and get better at managing his teams. He recruits the number, not to a system. As far as he has come as a coach he still has a bit to go. Unfortunately, he won't be able to finish developing here unless he wins. Which is going to take good team management, a good system, and luck especially come tourney time. It's actually kind of ironic..

In the 94 years of Memphis basketball we have made it to the sweet sixteen or farther 11 times and 5 of those have been vacated by the ncaa.
many of those years we were playing in the NIT which back then it was the main tournament. If you are saying this to say hey we dont go to the sweet 16 a lot anyway, let's just be happy with getting blown out in the second game of the ncaa, I don't want to go down that road. You should always aspire to be better, not stay and swim in mediocre land.

I agree we should strive for better but some act like we have UCLA's history.

Which we certainly don't. I mean ****, I would love to have that moving forward, but I don't think anyone on here is dumb. No one goes into every season saying National Title or bust, or expects us to win 10 in a row.

I am on board with the group saying Pastner get's more time, and I agree 2 more years is fair. I'm just saying "peaking" at the round of 32 before having a rebuilding year is not reflective of what this program is able to accomplish.

This post is 100% wrong. Total bull. No one can run a person off of a message board. The whole message board thing is bullet proof for safety. It's not real life at all. Now if someone went up to a poster in real life and scared the crap out of them and told them do not get on this message board ever again, I would agree with you, but that isn't the case.

RE: Josh Pastner's Resume
How long did Auburn give Tony Barbee? They cut ties quickly and got Bruce Pearl when he became available. repeat Auburn got Bruce Pearl. As a comparison, let's see which coach gets there team farther in the 2 year period that some say is fair for Pastner. I love the Tigers and have been a fan since I was 10 years old, but if I was a betting man, I would bet the farm on Auburn and it hurts me to say that. Now, who knows what coach will be available when the season ends, but if there is a better coach available, we should go after him period. While I would love to see Pastner succeed, the notion that no other accomplished coach would come here is weak.

RE: Josh Pastner's Resume
Miss j wasn’t run off she just decided that there were more important things in life than Tiger bball. I’m feeling the same way lately as I’ve been a student, fan, and supporter since the early 70’s, FB too.

The program(s) are more important than ANY coach. Josh is going to get the opportunity to prove himself, and if he does not… He will still get a pass.

Me? I want a NC or final 4 b4 I croak. Folks who don’t understand where I’m coming from don’t understand Memphis bball. THE NOW GENERATION I guess.

I'll never understand how Barbee got better talent at UTEP than Auburn.

RE: Josh Pastner's Resume
Barbee didn't win many as winning was not what was expected nor tradition when it comes to Auburn basketball. They are a football school. I applaud them for stepping up to the plate in an effort to brand their basketball team and I would bet they are more regarded with Pearl than we will be in 2 more years. Again, I would love nothing more than to see Pastner succeed, but I have no confidence that it will happen. just my opinion.

I'm so tired of hearing this crap. He procured that record against CUSA. Aka basicly the sun belt. Any time he's stepped outside of that he has laid an egg. 5th place in his first year in a good league with, as the OP said, the best team he's ever had.

I'm so tired hearing that crap, too. Cal's record against C-USA totally sucked before it got raided.

Uh yeah. Ok. 3 straight elite 8's.
