Dantonio is a Big Ten homer. Asst for 6 years at MSU, DC at OSU, The HC at Cincy,
then back to MSU. I know Brett left for Arkansas, but don't see Dantonio leaving MSU.

D'Antonio will either retire at MSU or get run out of town. And that last one is basically impossible at this point in time.

RE: Who is next at Florida?
I would like to see Florida hire Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson to see if he can do the same stellar job for them that he did in his one year at Southern Miss.

Barring that, I think Larry Fedora would be a good choice for them, ensuring the Gators of several years of mediocrity.

A lot of those names are pretty silly, like Stoops.

So, who is going to Florida?

Here is a rumor:

Brian Kelly to Florida, Dan Mullen to ND? (Mullen got his start as a GA under Bob Davie with Urban Meyer and Charlie Strong also on the staff).

ESPN's Brett McMurphy brought up Brian Kelly first regarding the Florida job.

He mentioned Kelly first as someone UF's AD, Jeremy Foley, might want to pursue. Said Foley wants head coaching experience, and likely an emphasis on offensive prowess.

That's pretty interesting.

How would the ND faithful take that if it were to happen?

ND had Urban Meyer, Charlie Strong, and Dan Mullen on staff, but the head coach was Bob Davie? Doh!

Given up? No . But year 5 we should not see the mistakes we do. Another maddening thing is we recruit real well and we always play down to the competition(. It maddening, Northwestern, Purdue, Navy .

If he tanks the rest of the season then ask me . I had issues with him before but this is just getting old.

He sums it up well

RE: Who is next at Florida?
list from ESPN of 8 possible candidates
1 Bob Stoops
2 Rich Rodriguez
3 Hugh Freeze
4 Dan Mullen
5 Mike Gundy
6 Charlie Strong
7 Jim McElwain
8 Steve Spurrier

thought some interesting names on there. Stoops makes a lot of sense. timing may be right as well.

Gundy picked the wrong season to be 5-5 in mid November.

I'd be shocked if Gundy left Oklahoma State. He's from Oklahoma, went to Oklahoma State and has had success there. He has his dream job and I think it would be a mistake to chase the money and prestige.

Stoops could be ready for a change, but he's already in a plum job. His brother is rumored to be a candidate as well, but leaving Kentucky after the recruiting classes that he has had would be tough. I think the kind of classes he would be able to attract at Florida would make up for it though.

Freeze being on this list is a bit strange to me. I get why he would be an attractive candidate but going to Florida doesn't seem like a good match.

Mullen and Rodriguez seem to make the most sense from this list, but Mullen is said to have "issues" with the Florida AD and Rodriguez' Michigan experience may give them pause. Strong would have made a lot of sense about five years ago, but not as much now with him at Texas.

Getting Spurrier back for a farewell tour is probably a bad idea, but it could happen. It would fire up their fans and he could set up his guy as his replacement when he retires for good.

That leaves McElwain from this list. I believe Florida would rather poach a bigger name but I'm not sure one is going to be available. Todd Graham has been at one place for a couple of years so he could be ready for a change. But my guess is going to be.....

Gary Patterson of TCU. Built them into a national title contender and it will never be better for the Frogs than it is now. He could leave for Florida having delivered a team with a conference title at least and a national title at most.

RE: Who is next at Florida?
Patterson is an interesting name. He's only 54(which surprised me actually). 1 thing that could get interesting about him is if TCU makes the playoffs- not sure that Florida would be willing to wait until potentially Jan 13 to get him.

I think Bob Stoops from Oklahoma makes a lot of sense. He's at that point where if he doesn't go now, he's never going. I just get the feeling that it's getting real stale at Oklahoma for him right now.

Just remember what Saban said about Alabama when he was with the Dolphins.

Or Roy Williams saying, "I don't give a damn about North Carolina," a few days before he took the North Carolina job.
