Hate to say it and I know the coaches poll is based on human votes, but unless Arkansas is ranked in top 25, we should not be getting votes. Being at that game I realized we were just outmatched. Obviously if Arkansas isn't getting many votes, then we shouldn't either

RE: Coaches Poll
Agreed, it's cool that we are getting votes with 2 losses b/c like the peach bowl discussion it's a huge endorsement of where our program is at.

However, we have absolutely no business being in this discussion. Now if Ark can get bowl eligible and so can NW and we get through OHio and steal one from WMU than maybe at that point it's justified.

Also note that Notre dame is next in line to be ranked and their best win is Stanford. Northwestern should get votes then. ND has wins over Syracuse, Purdue, michigan...

To an extent, yes, but at the same time NIU is 8-2.

NIU went into the MAC Championship against Miami 10-2 and they were ranked.

When it gets to this point in the year, the pollsters look at record and most recent results more than anything else. A team with only 2 losses going into week 13 is almost guaranteed of receiving votes from someone.

So should Virgina Tech be ranked in the top 10 because they beat tOSU? It doesn't work like this, never has, never will. NIU was outplayed in that game for sure but it is based on overall record and recent results as 7 said. Losing at the beginning of the year is better then later when you add the human element. Also based on reputation NIU will get the benefit of the doubt, which shows how far the program has really come.

reputation. but yeah. i agree. for every complaint about NIU's SOS, i roll my eyes and look at ND and their prestigious schedule against the Coast Guard and the University of Blind and Disabled Hemophiliacs.

Yeah, it may seem not just for NIU to have more votes than Arkansas, but I am not going to say NIU is getting something it doesn't deserve when Notre Dame has 50 times the votes NIU does, after Notre Dame got beat AT HOME, against a team NIU handled in NU.

Yeah. One has to look at the whole picture, not just an isolated game. For instance...

WMU beat @BGSU, therefore WMU > BGSU
Indiana lost @BGSU, therefore WMU > Indiana
Indiana beat Missouri, therefore WMU > Missouri

NIU beat @Northwestern, therefore NIU > NU
NU beat Wisconsin, therefore NIU > Wisconsin
NU beat Notre Dame, therefore NIU > Notre Dame
NU beat Penn State, therefore NIU > Penn State

Ahhh there's a website for that: http://www.myteamisbetterthanyourteam.com/

its all in good fun, but ND always seems to get the benefit of the doubt while most other non-SEC schools get the doubt.
