ESPN FPI predicts that UAB, Tennessee, Fresno St. And Temple will all become eligible so we're likely looking at 79 teams for 76 spots. That means all transitional teams are out and three eligible teams will not go. We have three tie-ins so we will get three but I doubt we get all four in considering how they've handled the Sun Belt in the past.

not gonna sit well with most here, but thats waaaay too many bowl games.

Z

Agree 100%, hardly makes them special anymore when almost 2/3rds of fbs teams can go..

What's not to like about all the bowl games? I like seeing new, different teams getting a chance to experience a bowl game. Coaches like them for the extra practice time. Fans like them for the party. Players like them for the gifts and the rings. Do the New Mexico, Las Vegas, Heart of Dallas, or New Orleans Bowls matter? Only to the teams participating in them, but that's true about every bowl except the two playoff bowls.

I give USA a lot of credit for getting Ole Miss and Navy at home. Really good job of OOC scheduling. But a 6-6 record and losing 4 of the last 5 games is not really bowl worthy, especially when you have three other bowl eligible schools with better records. There has to be something more than "we didn't have the benefit of an FCS school on our schedule".

Tennessee makes their way in, 24-17 over Vanderbilt.

San Diego State forces Fresno State to win to get into the championship game by beating San Jose State, 38-7.

UAB gets in, 45-24 over Southern Mississippi.

we then went on to blowout our last two opponents.

So a four point victory over Texas State at home is the difference that gets you in? Is that your marquee win? What about that 45-10 loss at Arkansas State three weeks ago? We beat them by 18 at home. We won four of our last six, three on the road. You guys lost four of your last five. If record and momentum mean anything, ULL, Arkansas State and Texas State get the three bowl bids.

Circular arguments are just that, circular. ASU beat an injury depleted USA team. TXST beat an injury depleted ASU. USA beat TXST. We all have a 5-3 league record and all have 6 FBS wins. The only difference between the three is that USA didn't play an FCS. What will the bowls decide? That remains to be seen.

Aside from the 6 minimum wins they don't mean anything.

1. That, along with a qualifying overall record and proximity to the bowl location.
2. Record does, momentum doesn't. 6-6 is the only record the bowls care about.

Bowls care about Ticket sales.

So what you are both saying is that in any given season as long as South Alabama wins six games, they will be able to bump another school with a better record because of proximity and "potential ticket sales"?

So South Alabama being in the city of one bowl and being 145 miles from New Orleans and 170 miles from Montgomery has a proximity advantage over other schools that trumps record? We will see if it really works out that way...

Well, just this past year 7-5 Arkansas State got into a bowl over a 8-4 WKU team that won the regular season meeting between the teams, but Arkansas State had the strong bowl history, and that won out in the end.

Ticket Sales might hurt South looking at their attendance this year.

Change a few words and let me know if you have an answer...

So what you are both saying is that in any given season as long as [Louisiana Lafayette] wins six games, they will be able to bump another school with a better record because of proximity and "potential ticket sales"?

So [Louisiana Lafayette] being [near] the city of one bowl and being [240] miles from [Mobile] and 369 miles from Montgomery has a proximity advantage over other schools that trumps record? We will see if it really works out that way...

Louisiana has an established fan base and history of great attendance for bowl games.

South Alabama just had two terrible turnouts at home to end the season for very big games.

not a good comparison.

Fresno State places themselves in the bowl picture by beating Hawaii, 28-21. Win or lose next week against either Boise or Utah State, they qualify for a bowl.

Pittsburgh qualifies with a 35-23 win in Miami.

Oregon State is the last team playing tonight looking to bowl qualify. That won't happen, they are getting waxed by the Ducks.

That is exactly correct. And it will most likely work out that way too. That stated, I want to see ALL SBC bowl eligible teams go bowling and am rooting for each and everyone of us.

Correction, Fresno is out with a loss next week. They would be 6-7 and according to the NCAA's own rule book, could not be placed until all 6-6 and better teams were placed.

They could seek a waiver like UCLA did a few years ago when they went 6-6 and qualified for Pac12 title game.

They could, but UCLA got that Waiver because USC actually won the division that year, but was ineligible for the title game because of NCAA sanctions.

In other words, UCLA would have made a bowl had USC not screwed up.

There is no such situation here.
