But to me, it kinda sounded like he was toeing the company line of "the fans are responsible for causing this damaging distraction." He also seemed confident that football wasn't going anywhere.

Paraphrasing - To be in great in basketball, we have to have a football program. He believed the administration would surely understand this.

Strong endorsement for a total Athletic program and said strong football was good for the brand, Conf affiliation and the Basketball program. I thought it was very positive. Glad to have a leader in Ath dept speak out and realize what common scense should tell you; Good Football helps Badketball and the university.

It's shameful that the ONLY athletic department employee that has spoken up in favor of football (outside of Clark) is Jerrod Haase. I have great respect for Haase.

Did Haase come out and say exactly that? That the fans are at fault ?

LOL @ Badketball. Also give an assist to Crane. He put the question on a tee for Haase.

He didn't...but he did say that the rumors that fans are spreading are causing a distraction and hurting recruiting for all programs.

He's right that the fans are saying that basketball is next on the chopping block.

I think that is more reading between the lines rather than paraphrasing what Coach Haas actually said. He referred several times to the "rumors" that have been circulating. He also said (paraphrasing) several times that having a football program can be a real plus for an athletic program. He also acknowledged that the situation has been a bit of a distraction, both for the players and in recruiting, because it has "conference implications". He ended by saying that he thought everything will turn out okay.

I hope he's right and I'm dead wrong, Cajun!

He did not say the fans were at fault. Let's clear that up now.
