Still think Pitt needs some stability after the historic chaos that reigned over 3 years.

I feel the same way regarding stability, but this entire coaching staff lacks the ability to make halftime adjustments.

I'm not ready to give up on him yet. The losses have been painful but close. They really could have or should have won about 3 of those games.

Don't blow the game to IOWA or lose to AKRON.... We would at least be bowl eligible.... Play calling just seems so conservative or just whacky at times

Yeah he's not very good.

As a side note, I wish we were playing you guys still 04-cheers. It makes bad seasons still interesting. When you have a losing season and you don't have the chance to play ND, WVU, or PSU it's just boring. I honestly don't think I've ever been this disinterested in a season. I may be in the minority of Pitt fans but it's so bad I wish we were back before realignment. At least Pitt played WVU and ND every year.

I dunno if it's the offensive side of the ball at all. It's more on the defensive side of the ball. Time and time again, our kids were in a decent position to make a TOL and the play turned into a 20+ yard run. If games were 30 min long Pitt would be like 6-4 or better at this point. The only game were we really lost at the jump was Georgia Tech and that was due to losing four fumbles in the first six plays of the game.

I don't think it's time to fire Chryst but I think he needs to fire House and find a new DC for next season.

This defense is bad. I don't think it's all talent, either. The players aren't in the right positions and I don't think that's their fault at this point. I just don't think House knows what he's doing calling the defense.

I'd agree of there was any talent on the defense to coach. We lack talent on the defensive side of the ball. We need to convert some if the OL to DL. Specifically Bookser.

Over the past 30 years Pitt head coaches have lasted an average of 2.8 seasons. The very last thing we need to do right now is to repeat that mistake yet again.

What the hell does that mean?

The fan base has evaporated.

RE: Fire Chryst
The people writing in this thread are the last of the Pitt fans, I fear.

Our program has a culture of losing. When I watch a football game, I don't expect Pitt to pull it out. I don't expect them to get that crucial stop on 3rd down. Most of the time, I expect a loss. Most of the time, that's what happens.

Today was a great example of this. UNC was slowly creeping back into the game and I knew in my heart, they would win. They did.

I don't know how to turn this around. I've seen Pitt teams of all types lose at crucial moments.

Pitt needs a better defense. That probably means a better DC.
JMO though.

RE: Fire Chryst
There were numerous Pitt fans at the game yesterday.
The Pitt fans acted as you would expect guests to act (polite, respectful, passionate about their team, nice) . I hope that they come back as often as possible.

I thought that Conner was a beast and Pitt (30-220) and the quarterback played a really good game.
Pitt's defense just wore out. Carolina's quarterback (Williams) completed 16 passes in a row (2nd and 3rd quarters) to set a school record for consecutive completions.

The momentum of the game changed with the blocked field goal that would have given Pitt a 17-0 lead.

RE: Fire Chryst
The defense is a talent and coaching issue. If Coles doesn't quit the team and Howards doesn't get suspended; the cornerbacks are much deeper than they are and guys like Maddox and Amara could be redshirted. Then guys like Webb and Jarrett being hurt doesn't help matters either. I counted several times that Blair and Soto could've made TOL and wiffed like Pedro Averez at the plate, which resulted in 20+ yard scrambles. It's up to the coaches to coach the talent - or lack there of -up.

Every game on offense -minus GT & Akron- it comes out like bats out of hell and becomes pedestrian like in the 2nd half.

I feel what you're saying. I'm usually the last person to jump off of a coaches bandwagon. I'm just failing to see adjustments on offense. Perhaps that does have to do with Voytik not totally getting it yet.

At the end of the day, smiley needs to be the one that goes. Maybe that'll happen at the end of this year. I think going back to the 'Script was a desperation move on his part, but where can one find new 'Script merchandise.

There was a fan base to be evaporated, unless we're talking about a puddle?

yes.

They're losing even the loyal element of the fanbase.

SU game is going to be a ghost town. Can't even fathom how poor attendance will be next year.

The bat-**** crazy element is taking over the message boards too which doesn't help the issues.

Most of the time, a coaching change is accompanied by a lost recruiting year. If you consistently tank on recruiting every third year, you'll never get out of the hole. It took David Cutcliffe six years to post a winning season at Duke. Granted, he was digging out of a deeper hole, but Duke was smart to stick with him. Maybe Chryst will never turn it around. But if you let him go now, you will never know if he could have, and three years down the road you will be looking for a new coach again. Do you really want to keep perpetuating the same losing pattern?
