Quote:It was OC at NIU to WR coach for Tampa Bay Bucs.
Yes, you're right. Still though -- WR coach at Tampa Bay? OC at your alumni place -- that you know you'll move up quite soon up the chain -- yet bolt like that? Obvious head-butting if leaving after 1 day for a lesser job -- even at Tampa Bay vs Rutgers.
Quote:More than likely it was some conflict with Doeren that motivated PJ to leave after 1 day. Whether it was a difference of opinion on offensive systems that they wanted to run (the one PJ runs at WMU is much different than the one NIU ran the year before and the one that they ran under Carey), or a personality conflict between the two, we'll likely never know.
You're probably right. And it getting off on a wrong foot, and having that offer prior, he probably jumped ship toward it. And when a MAC offer came to him not too long later, he wanted to take a stab at that to make up for leaving what his original goal was, to get back on track.
Quote:I don't even think WMU is all that good, but its a down year for the MAC and a window of opportunity for them, as this year they are pretty clearly the best team. They better win it this year though.
Based on what they've demonstrated so far (knock on wood) -- they Are good. I wasn't convinced after some games. I'm an objective guy. I even bet against them in the BGSU game and lost.
But yeah, the MAC *is* having a down year. Saying they are the best isn't worth truckloads of gold -- no. However, with such solid robust wins -- it says "IF the MAC was having a decent year this year, they'd be in the running at this point. They wouldn't be crushing or winning so solidly against the teams, but winning by 3-10pts."
Quote: I agree, their window of opportunity is small, assuming PJ will be there at WM for a little while longer.
He will be. Next year our schedule is BRUTAL. We'll be very lucky to be 7-5 next year (Michigan State, @Ohio State, @GA-Southern [a new top mid-major], @NIU, @Toledo).
However, our team will be better. I think the key is keeping our OCs & DCs. After a 1-11 year, PJ's not going anywhere. And next year will make him stick unless we make another "jump" that's on the same level, into next year (I doubt that and expect none of that). In 2016 though, with @Illinois and @Northwestern (yes, *us* WMU, not you guys. Play Illini will ya??) -- and GA-Southern at HOME with many of our players matured -- that should be the WMU year. I think AFTER THAT is when Fleck would be leaving...
... assuming of course he doesn't get caught up with OCs/DCs leaving beforehand and stumbling. Us WMU fans have to remind ourselves -- we're not solidified yet. PJ has shown great sweetness in making us a MAC contender -- but he has a ways to go before we Expect it every year and that his very few years are limited. But I'm enjoying it now.
