Yes, it's that time of the year again.
KenPom.com has posted its preseason predictions. I share the following information for entertainment purposes only.
UAB starts out ranked 162nd.
His computer has UAB going 16-13 overall, and 9-9 in C-USA. This includes winning the last six games, but the last two are really toss-ups.

RE: Ken Pomeroy
I'm sorry, but 16-13 just doesn't cut it for me. This team should win AT LEAST 20 games.

In the Battle 4 Atlantis, he has UAB losing the first game to Wisconsin (#6), 77-63. The other two games are mysteries right now.

There are 10 freshmen and sophomores on the team and only two upperclassman who have played major D1 ball, one of which hasn't played in a year.
Frankly, I'm surprised we are being picked to have a winning record.
The computer has UAB winning 12 games by 5 points or less.

RE: Ken Pomeroy
Regarding Ken Pomeroy's preseason predictions last year, he says the average error in conference wins last year was 2.14. Last year, 63% of his predictions of conference wins had a error of 2 wins or less.

No good reason. This is the last year Haase gets a semi-pass, and that's only because the team is so young. He has a lot of talent here now, let's see what he can do with it. I expect, at the very least, to see this team improve big time as the season goes on.

I'm with MB on this one. We could end up gelling with all the talent and being a really good team. However, after seeing the exhibition game, the first part of our season may be reallllly rough.

Luckily the conference tournament is in Birmingham. Our February/March schedule is much better than the rest. We have a chance to go into the postseason on a winning note. That said, I think KenPom is right on...but I'll give us 18 wins (counting Young-Harris).

That sounds dead on...we need marked improvement to avoid that type of record.

RE: Ken Pomeroy
Yep, right now that looks about right. We need an on court leader. We need our two upperclassmen to play like it. We need to defend better. Our help defense was always a step or two behind, which I'm hoping we can chalk up to guys catching up to the speed of the game. Basically, we need to learn to gel still. I see solid individual pieces, but as a whole we just aren't clicking.
MB said it the other day, and I think he may be correct. Overall this is a fairly weak(strength wise) team, and that does not bode well for the rest of the season.
