Some coaches just excel with a bunch of newcomers each year, turning them into a solid squad. Like John calipari does.

If Pastner underperforms with an experienced squad like last season, there's little confidence he can turn an inexperienced group into much more than first round fodder.

After seeing it play out...would have preferred seeing Crawford, Burrell, Avery and Johnson play and shoot even more...even if we lost by more to CBU in an exhibition...they need the work. Having those kids more up to speed for Wichita State and the next few games is infinitely more important than the score of the exhibition...again...with the major league qualifier that even our backups entirely should still overwhelm even a good D2 school.

I'm angry and pissed; it was a huge embarrassment, but one exhibition game with a completely new lineup of players that have barely practiced with each other isn't going to drive me into hysterics.

Let's have the list besides Cal.

Playing with numbers a bit.

They include Jordan Manse--a non-scholarship walkon and (I guess) D'Mariner Cunningham. I guess he's on scholarship.

They also include Markel and Pookie, who are in their second year with the team, so they aren't truly "newcomers" in the absolute sense.

By my count the 2009-10 team featured nine newcomers and the 2010-11 team featured nine also. Same for last year, but I am counting Markel and Pookie as "newcomers" there. Can guys be "newcomers" two years in a row?

• Memphis has 10 newcomers (including two who were a part of last year's team but did not play), which is the most for a season since freshmen became eligible to play in 1972-73.

Pastner nuked the program.

Did Burrell play vs CBU and if so how did he look? I thought he could really stroke the 3?

I'm pissed and the past two days have really been the first time I've questioned Pastner's future, but it is important to remember our team is very, very inexperienced. Still very disappointed by how totally unprepared the team looked in the CBU game after Canada and a scrimmage, but I'll try to remember this throughout the season. Lord help us.

The issue is our only experience is in the front court with no experienced leaders in back court to get the ball to the front court. Which will compound the problem when the guards lose their player and the front line pick up fouls trying to cover them
