Going to be a long season for the girls, team is slow, don't rebound well, shooting not good. No matter what Jim Heller says, don't get your hopes up.

I honestly don't remember a bunch of JUCOs coming in the same class? Who were they? I guess the fact that I don't even remember them speaks volumes as to their contributions...The only recruiting classes that I can remember being a complete bust were the ones that had all true freshmen--Kendyl Nunn (transferred out), Cat Wells (transferred out) the guard from Detroit (Michelle Hayes? but she also left) and the gal from Fort Wayne whose name I also can't remember, but who also transferred out. Man...I'm surprised I remember my own name!

EDIT: "complete" bust was unfair on my part...I'm guessing Inma and Ana were members of one or the other of those classes now that I think about it...

Cullop brought in Sarah Clark, Keenesha Lee and Anna Sonka as part of her 2010 class. Clark arrived on campus with a bun in the oven and could not play while the other two were not really D-I players and made a quick exit after the season was over.

In 2006 Mark Ehlen brought Tamesha Scotten, TaYani Clark and Nacole Stocks. Scotten became a pretty decent scorer after she figured out which hand she shot with, Clark was a pretty decent off guard for two years, but Stocks struggled at the point for two years.

Going back a bit further, Melantha Herron and Shekinah Brazzle helped get us to our last NCAA Tourney appearance back in 2001.

Thanks for the reminder! I BARELY remember Clark out of all of those--I think she came from Owens? Still, I'm a little surprised we haven't tried another JUCO recruit or two given how we lost an entire class from a couple years ago.

1. Anything more on Inma's play? Only 4 points got my attention, but I wasn't there. Did she miss a lot of shots? Was she in foul trouble? Did CSU just do a really good job denying her the ball & defending her when she did have it? Did she seem injured/ill? Is she trying to fill more of a traditional PG role? All of the above? While I agree with those who feel her overall game is more valuable, and she's not likely to be a 20 ppg scorer, I do think she benefitted greatly from having Naama & Yo on the floor at the same time, a luxery she certainly didn't have last season.

Inma did have 7 assists, so it wasn't like she wasn't participating at all on offense, just not really looking for her shot, and certainly not trying to take the offense on her shoulders. I wonder if that wasn't intentional, to make sure to get the younger players more offensive looks early in the season.

Similar to the exhibition. I agree it appears she's taken onthat role. As the younger players integrate into a unit I think we'll see her assert herself more as a scorer. She could get 18-30 a game but the team would be sacrificed. I'd be happy w 14 or so and dishing when she draws doubles. Her scoring will have to increase come MAC time.

Rockets started three players 6 foot plus, CSU has no one getting major minutes above 5-10 and Rockets got out rebounded.
Rockets touted has having a longer bench but 7 players got nearly all the minutes (Inma, Sophie, Harris, Janice, Rasmussen, Ana, and Bravio-Harriet). And these players scored all the points. It was a 7 player rotation.
Inma has to score more than 4 points for this team to win.
Cleveland State killed the Rockets at the 3 point line. Perimeter defense was weak throughout the game.
Two sophomores and one freshman in double figure scoring, with a second freshman with 9 points so maybe next year this will be a potent group.

I'm never sure Heller knows what he's talking about but he said Rockets won the boards 40-39.

My error. You are correct, Rockets had one more board but shouldn't they have had a wider margin on the boards with such an advantage in size?

Unless CSU made a substantially higher % of their shots than Toledo, in which case there are fewer defensive boards available. Just glad Reecher asserted herself some. She needs some meanness lessons from Inma- played too nice last year.

Agree not fundamentally sound and at least slower than Cleveland State.

My analysis: The team has 6 freshman. They will turn the ball over a lot and at times look lost on defense. They will be about 500 in the MAC. It will be about a year and half before they are a contender. No surprises there. The end.

RE: WBB: Toledo vs Clevland State
The one which surprises me the most is Harris, who has two years big time basketball experience. I thought that she was supposed to be the prime candidate for point guard. She had 1 assist in the game. I saw her looking for her own shot and not looking to distribute the ball.

That is the biggest conundrum for coach. The best distributer of the ball is Inma who was taking on that responsibility in the Cleveland State game. But she should also be a primary scoring threat and her scoring was compromised by her intent to find an open teammate. We need an alternative for point guard and I don't see one at this early point in the season.

will be interesting to see if the fan base can be retained with back to back .500 seasons. 2 years of mediocre basketball would be a consequence of back to back unproductive recruiting years.

I could see us going back to where we were about 5-6 years ago with about 2000 a game, but should still be an exciting atmosphere going forward.

I still think we're going to average around 3500 a game for the next few years. Our women's fan base is awesome even if they really hate those guys in stripes...05-stirthepot

I am not sure where the .500 season predictions is coming from. That was the first game of the season on the road against an experienced team by a very young team. If we had lost to them in February i would agree...time to worry.
As for last seaon, with all of the injuries and freshmen that were forced to play, I have a question for of those who think last season was such a disaster. How many points over the course of the season made the difference between a 16 win season and 20 win season?

Eight points! That means four baskets that the other teams got, or four we didn't get, or two they got and two we didn't get. With all of the things that the coaches and players had to over come ...8 points and 12 pts would have made 21 wins. I am not dismissing anyone's opinion, just don't understand all the negative comments.
