Wow, the MAC is off to a strong start against the Horizon league. Is it 4-0 by my count?

Damn, NIU might be better this year and it still won't help us in the MAC since the other teams are all better.

That's two decent wins for BG. Wins they usually didn't get in the past.

BSU was very competitive against Utah as well. The game was in single digits for the most part, and the Cards had a chance to cut it to one possession pretty late in the game (5 or 7 min left?) before a few turnovers broke the game open and the Cards had to go into rush/desperation mode a bit, resulting in the final spread. BSU had three guards out with injury (one likely their best player) and only had two scholarship guards available, so it was a great showing in a situation where they were out-manned and out-sized all over the court.

[delusional_fanboy]I really think that Whitford is on the cusp of finally getting BSU to turn the corner back into relevance after 14 years of futility under Buckley, Taylor, and that other guy I'd rather not speak of. This team is starting two freshmen and two sophomores, is being led in scoring by the two freshmen (and one of the sophomores is third in scoring), has only one senior, and has two quality bigs coming in next year. Though a team that young will make a lot of youthful mistakes this year, things are really looking up in Muncie in the long term.[/delusional_fanboy]

Nice going Zips.

Miami didn't look so hot against Evansville, an admittedly solid mid major program. We're starting off a lot better than last year's disaster, but I wouldn't expect us to make many headlines this early in the season. Last year we improved by leaps and bounds towards the end, now with so many newcomers I would expect similar progress to occur.

USC would not finish with a winning record in the MAC.

Still, impressive response by the Akron players.

SI had USC about #130 or so? Can't access it right now. Akron was close to that as well. No MAC teams in their top 100, though. Toledo was just over 100, iirc and several MAC teams were in the 110-140 range.

All wins over major conference opponents are very good wins. USC is not a good program, but that's their problem, not ours.

RE: MAC BBall WK2 (11/16 - 11/22)
nice job Zips! with that win the MAC moves to 19-5 on the year.

I'm still recovering from the 24 pummeling handed down by NIU's football team and FGCU's bball team. Not to take away from FGCU; who seems like a lock to win the ASun's NCAA bid this year, but Ohio really showed how a young team with a new coach can sometimes press too hard on the road and become their won worse enemy. In the long run I don't think it will be a bad loss but it was tough to watch a team get down by 25 at halftime. Hopefully it becomes a learning experience.

Bowling Green fans- if you want to know what the Stroh Center is capable of becoming go watch the FGCU game on ESPN. Capacity is around 4,600 and they were completely sold out. Very loud, rowdy atmosphere. Tough place to play with those close walls and low roof.

What's gotten into the MAC? It's refreshing to see us start playing some good basketball after such a disappointing football season, how are we doing relative to peer conferences?

With NIU victorious over the Vandals, MAC hoops is now 20-5 early in the non-conference portion of the season.

Buffalo's home game vs. Montana St tomorrow is postponed. Bulls were a big favorite in the game so it is tough one to not have played.

I am sorry to say that the Huskies will no win the MACC this year in basketball. Highsmith is out for the year and needs another surgery. He has become NIU's David Brown.

Well, as said above. NIU's chances took a big hit with Highsmith officially done for the year. Should have took it as a sign when he was not fully healthy by the start of the season. He tore his ACL a year ago and they were talking about him not being ready until December.

Hopefully another year off can make him fully healthy so he doesn't need to worry about it in the future. Maybe he can get a medical redshirt after missing what is essentially two straight seasons.

To be fair, he's the only NIU fan who thought that.
