Personally, I would love to start off 0-5, and watch Josh go in to survival mode and become a Coca-cola drinking, dog cussing, mean, hard-nosed Son. Of. A. B****.

I expect them to get it together and turn in a credible season with an NCAA tourney appearance.

But that's the thing. Good coaches can get players to respond. Josh will just use his "golly gee guys! We have to do better than that!! What's it gonna take? Do you want your names back on your jerseys so the crowd can know who the hell you are?? HECK! I MEANT HECK! Golly, that's another ten dollars in the swear jar!"

I have to point out that we got killed by Oklahoma St early last season. Then we had a "course correction", and ended up having a pretty good season (regular season at least). So Pastner has gotten players to respond before.

I am not arguing whether Pastner is a "good" coach or not. Just saying that getting the players to respond has not been one of his bigger problems.

The guards were 9-31 from the field, 3-19 from outside and 0-1 from the line for a total of 21 points. I can't think of a reason why Kedren won't be a very good guard and I think Pookie is going to be a player. Hopefully, between Burrell, Woodson, Markel and Magee, we can cobble together some sort of depth. I don't know if Burrell can even play the two.

We are so good at the 3/4/5 that if we can get average performance out of our guards, we should have a very good team. They sure (I hope) can't be worse than they were yesterday.

YOu have to take the reigns off the guards and let them be aggressive...If guards are getting pulled for beating their man off the dribble but getting shot blocked in the paint...But get to stay in the game playing hot potato which do you think they are going to do. Even if we start 0-5 JP will not change his personality. You can bank on that. We will hear the same ole BS. Winning is hard, other team has great players, we have to get better, blah blah blah

Just to add to this, I think the question is, how good is this group of players? What is their ceiling? and, can Pastner and the staff develop these players? I dont have enough information to answer these questions yet. Though, you can't help but have doubts about player development.

How did we get here ? With such lacking guard play ? Who did we "miss on" or did we misevaluate this talent and have it prioritized all along ?

It's pretty sad when you can't even recruit a guard. So much for Pookie being the "key".

The bigs played great last night and are going to be very good. The guards were horrible, but Kedren is a proven D1 guard. You don't think that Pookie is the key?

It was CBU.

Yes the 4/5 positions are in good hands but if the guard play never rises above average then teams will pack it in and neutralize them.

Most teams on the schedule are better, way better than CBU.

So if you look at things from both extremes; if the guards play as badly as they did last night, we won't win a single game this season. If Kedren improves on his very good sophomore season, and Pookie/Woodson/Markel/Magee/Burrell give us average D1 guard play, we can make the Elite 8 or the Sweet 16.

Nobody can say how we will turn out based on one exhibition game. None of our guards played a single minute of D1 basketball last year, and Kedren is the only one with experience.

Those stats might be ok for one game VS Kentucky but that's all we could muster against CBU? Good grief

Remember Homefry, you talking to the smartest best Tiger fan of them all, forget the fact that he does it from way..........................................................over there.

Myself, 450, Bluto and Homefry usually don't get along, but occasionally we can all find the time to have a rational discussion about Tiger related topics.

You on the other hand, never have anything remotely intelligent to say, are always arguing, and always find the time to do what you are doing right now...sticking your nose into something that has nothing to do with you for the sole purpose of causing trouble.

And don't worry, I am reporting my own post. I am confident that the mods will not sanction me for this, the same way that they didn't sanction me or the other posters that think think that you're a weirdo for begging dudes to talk to you on the phone and meet you at games.

The 1996 team was similar to last year's team. They peaked early and regressed the last 5-6 games of the season.

It's ok. Coach has been stressing defense and conditioning all summer and preseason.

Maybe they were playing possum for Wichita State. A little rope a dope...

If that exhibition exhibited defense that they have been working on....we need another defense

I don't think Kedren playing well and average D1 guard play from the herd will get us anywhere close to an Elite 8 / Sweet 16. It might not even get us in THE tournament.

Me thinks you have too much confidence in our front court.

They will not be the world beaters that many think they are going to be.

Somewhere around 25 points and 14 rebounds between Austin and Shaq would be my guess.
