Interesting.

They probably won a few more over after last night. Those folks went bonkers.

I heard that same stuff and I agree with that. Care, love, and cheer for the school first and the coach second. I have always done that, even when my favorite coaches were there....Dana, Larry, and Cal. I wish I could have seen Bartow.

Gene was the best. I saw Dean Ellers, SUFFERED through Moe Iba And a lot more. But All i have to say is, JP is a fine young man, and any father would be Proud of him. He is due the respect of all tiger fans. But head coaching in college is just not his cup of tea in my opinion. I really hope I'm wrong on this one, but don't believe i am.

interesting how a lot of these type posts are coming out. I agree with the whole post, however, I didn't get to see Gene so I can't make him my favorite. He is my dad's favorite though.

Pastner's lack of apparent coaching development is a concern. Not to say this means he has not improved. He just isn't where he needs to be to help the type of players he recruits meet, much less exceed, their potentials. I'm not sure he has the self awareness to adjust and allow the possibility he needs to bring in better complementary assistant coaches than he has.

It can get better, the season hasn't even started. I hope it does.

Back early on in his tenure, when his "cute" quirks were being adored and bragged on, such as only sleeps 3 hrs (or whatever it is), always on the phone, texts recruits in the middle of the night, hyper, RaH! Rah! Rah!, etc., those things made me worry about him being self-centered / overly sure of himself / or maybe simply not right in the head. People thought his goofiness was his schtick, I worried that he really is goofy.

That being said, I'm not one calling for him to be fired at the end of the season if he doesn't do ______. I agree his interviews are not worth listening to, but I don't agree he has proven he can't do it at this level. All his teams have been incomplete in one way or another, and not all due to his recruiting, some simply circumstances. This one is missing backcourt experience. Not to say I give him a complete pass, I think he needs to value frontcourt play more and I think he needs to change/upgrade the coaching on basketball aspects such as free throw shooting, rebounding, mid-range jumpshots and the like.

I am the Sales Manager for a local company. Marketing gave me approval to buy lower level season tickets to Grizz or Tigers games. We use these tickets to give to customers/prospects etc...

My inintial thought was to get Tiger tickets b/c I figured the demand for those games would be greater. So I ask my sales team to poll some of our loyal customers to see which games created more interest. I also asked my employees which tickets they prefered. We are now NBA season ticket holders, demand was 80/20 in favor of Grizz..

After reflecting on this, the results aren't that shocking. I think the fan base is growing tired of JP and his style(or lack thereof). Personally over the past 3 years, I have morphed into an Apathetic Tiger Fan. JP has polarized the fan base and he doesn't seem to possess the skills to get the fans or players motivated.

I hope he can get the team on the right track, however if history is any indication I am not very optimistic.

PS. I am a former longtime season ticket holder to Memphis Basketball and Alumni of the U of M. I gave up my personal tickets 2 years ago.

I've been trying to figure out why I haven't been more upbeat about the Tigers since last season. I really haven't been following recruiting this year like I usually do. Don't really care if we land a Skal or whoever. I'm coming into this season kind of numb.

I didn't even know we had a game last night until yesterday morning. The days of marking my calendar and scheduling my life around Tiger basketball games isn't part of my normal routine right now. I don't know. Maybe I'll shake it off in the coming weeks.

I've had the same reaction. Haven't felt this way in years. I'm out of town, and have always tried to find a way to watch every game I can (changed cable providers, paid extra for upgrades, watched via some crappy internet feeds, even listened to the Tiger radio broadcast as a last resort). I haven't even checked to see what games are televised this year. I've been a Tiger basketball fan since I learned what basketball was. Hoping to get my mojo back.

You did see Gene, remember 85 Andre hit the game winner against UAB in the tourney, that was Gene, he was good very good. He took UAB to the Elite Eight one year.

My dad taught at Shelby State in the late 70's early 80's, Bartow grabbed two players from them back then, my father regarded him very highly

It's not hurting Tiger basketball, the current regime is hurting Tiger basketball. The Grizz are just showing everyone what GOOD basketball looks like.

Along with suspect reasons for Pastner ruining the program that aren't proving true at the moment. The fan base really needs to do a better job though. Don't let your hate for Pastner stop you from supporting your team. I am not talking about fans that have important obligations or jobs that prevent them from going but the ones that can go and don't to spite Pastner. Those are also responsible for ruining the program.
