QB Dwight Macon
Obviously the biggest playmaker on the offense when given the QB position. Didn't Campbell say he was the #1 QB recruit a few years back? Too bad he wasn't used properly during his time at UT.

If he had been coached to play QB, he would have regressed just like TO & Dantin...I like him at QB doing his own thing. Seriously though...the kid played a hell of a game. I wish we would have stuck with the zone option and pace that led to our 2nd half TD's. Candle should be looking for a HS job after calling a freaking bubble screen on 4th down.

RE: QB Dwight Macon
I agree. The rest never developed into whatever the coaching staff thought they would. He certainly fits into the strengths of the offense. On the other hand, I'm betting the wr's are questioning the reason for accepting scholarships from UT. Russell could be so much better, if he had the opportunity to develop. Wilcher reminds me a lot of a miniature version of Terrell Owens, etc. But we may never know, unless Toledo can recruit (although Julian is young) a QB.

Julian needs to find another position (e.g., punter). He is not going to get it done at QB anytime soon.

Watched the entire game last night on TV. What really irked me was that I think Macon proabaly could have been a good dual threat QB for Toledo. Somehow he got lost in the shuffle with the emphasis on Dantin and TO...who were both not good QBs. It's a little late in the process but maybe Macon can help Toledo win a championship. Hopefully we won't see too much more of Julian!

The new beat writer for the local paper tweeted that Michael Julian has a concussion which was confirmed by Coach Campbell.

RE: QB Dwight Macon
Agree on the Ranger comment about Julian. I know MC has said all along that he could have gone with any of the three at the start but Julian certainly seemed at a loss on the big stage last night.
Feel sorry for him as I know he was giving his best. Has to be tough waiting for your time and then struggle as he did. If he is THE punter then I'd leave him there.
I hope this group can refocus and beat BG and the EMUs to end strong and hope for the best.
Then again a second season without a bowl might send a message to them that they are an OK team in a terrible league, which might not be all that bad.
Interesting days ahead for FB program, MC and MOB.

I don't expect much out of a RsFr with little game experience. Much like TO's first start against NIU. The game was over at halftime. Sad thing is the opportunities missed in the first three Offensive series because of inexperience. Missing Mancz was also very big.

Any update on Julian? I missed his time on the field and injury cause I got home late. A head injury is scary but done for yhe year, which could extend snother six eeeks is really scary. Hope the young man recovers.

There were a lot of bad snaps in that game that got the offensive timing off. A big deal.

RE: QB Dwight Macon
So hopefully we're all in agreement that Macon should be our starting QB from here on out...? Julian is bad, slow, and doesn't seem confident back there. Macon can make plays. I think he gives us our best chance to win out. I really don't want another 7-5 season with back-to-back losses to niu & bgsuCKS to end our season.

Worth an extra 2-3 yds/carry.

I heard Julian had a very good week of practice. Sometimes it just doesn't transfer when the lights come on when young.

RE: QB Dwight Macon
Big props to Macon for still having those QB chops.

If memory serves me, the first time we saw TO in significant action was when Dantin went out at EMU. TO, in his 2nd year in the program, stepped in and the first thing he did was throw a long strike for a TD, then he went on to win the game 42-7. So, TO showed something.

Macon is obviously our only hope at QB, unless Woodside heals to a point where he can at least contribute a little. I don't know how BGSucks compares to Northern, so I don't know what our chances are. But, if the coaches can't put something together where Macon can complete some passes and take a little heat of the RB's, then we have no chance. Also, if we're going to primarily run the ball, they're going to have to get a hell of a lot more creative with it. It became obvious last night that with no passing attack we cannot run the ball the same way we do as if we did have a passing attack. Heck, you could see that last week! What's that definition of insanity?

I don't believe I've EVER seen a Toledo defense as bad as I saw last night. I don't even think Eastern is a lock anymore.

Either NIU's defense is that terrible or Dwight Macon is a helluva player. I'm hoping it's the latter. I was really pissed when Macon threw that long TD pass on his third play, but as the game went on I realized he wasn't just an emergency QB. He is super athletic and to be honest, I would love the Huskies to have someone like him.

Dwight's first pass was a 68 yard down the field TD. Hmmmm. Wonder why we didn't do that again? Why do we have Russsell ?? Open it up a little - good grief. I understand the ball control concept, but come on.

A good week of practice for Macon will be real helpful. I agree, he needs to play to his strength, but he needs to use the team around him. This will make everybody better including himself.

Toledo has a fair shot against BGSUCKS with Macon. [/u]

RE: QB Dwight Macon
Setup some plays on offense where Macon can roll out to throw the ball. He would give the defense fits.

I remember a play that Gradkowski ran a long time ago where he rolled out to the right sideline and then threw the ball all the way back to the other side of the field to a completely wide open RB who rumbled 40 yards untouched. That is design and execution.

Julian only real success of the night was that one throw down field as well. Who knows what the staff was thinking. Maybe they didn't want to show too much with the BIG upcoming rivalry game with BG 01-wingedeagle

As for the BG game, BG will have an enormous advantage over NIU when it comes to Macon. Specifically they will have film of him and will not waste a week building a game plan around Julian or Woodside. I suspect that they will put a great deal of effort into trying to develop defensive schemes to contain his running game. How successful (or unsuccessful) they are will probably help determine the outcome of the game.
