RE: 2015 Basketball Freshmen of the year
Buffalo's only freshmen getting consistent playing time is Bearden. He's started every game and scored at least 8 points in every game, including a 23 point outburst last night.
Bearden is averaging 11 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.8 rebounds shooting 50% in 26.2 minutes per game. He probably won't have the big numbers needed to win the FROY, but he's clearly very very good already.

While both of Toledo's freshmen have been ok, neither is a major contributor at this point. I do think Kurt Hall could become more of a factor during conference play...maybe...I hope.

Akron's Noah Robotham is averaging 13.3ppg, 3.3rpg, 2.5apg, and is shooting 50% from the field.

I grabbed the stats from ESPN for all the Frosh listed in the thread. (I have it in a spreadsheet but cant get the table formatting right.) I added Minutes per game to try and put their other stats in perspective.

RE: 2015 Basketball Freshmen of the year
Ball State's freshmen are off to an amazing start. Sean Sellers currently leads the MAC in scoring with an average of 19.5 points per game, and Jeremie Tyler is 4th with an average of 16.3. Of course, they have played only 4 games thus far, but the future looks really bright for the Cardinals.

Two months later and we're 1/3 of the way into conference play, which freshmen are rising to the top? Any surprises?

I took a minute to recompile the stats from ESPN (and removed some of the players who red shirted, injured, etc...) Sean Sellers numbers look pretty impressive.
Code:
Player, Team - MIN / PPG / RPG / APG / FG%
Antino Jackson, Akron - 12.7 / 4.5 / 0.9 / 0.9 / 0.333
Noah Robotham, Akron - 30.5 / 9.8 / 2.6 / 2.9 / 0.411
Francis Kiapway, Ball State - 22.1 / 5.7 / 1.3 / 1.1 / 0.338
Jeremie Tyler, Ball State - 30.2 / 12 / 3.8 / 1.3 / 0.461
Sean Sellers, Ball State - 30.1 / 12.6 / 3.3 / 1.4 / 0.454
Garrett Mayleben, BG - 8.4 / 0.5 / 0.9 / 0 / 0.25
Lamonte Bearden, Buffalo - 28.8 / 8.3 / 2.8 / 4.3 / 0.377
Raheem Johnson, Buffalo - 12.2 / 2.7 / 2.4 / 0.1 / 0.581

Ethan Alvano, Eastern - 18.9 / 3.8 / 1.8 / 2.5 / 0.2
Tim Bond, Eastern - 12.1 / 4.1 / 0.7 / 0.3 / 0.375
Raasean Davis, Kent St - 3.2 / 0.7 / 0.9 / 0 / 0.667
Zach McCormick, Miami - 19.6 / 3.2 / 1.1 / 0.8 / 0.284
Khari Harley, Ohio - 15.3 / 2.1 / 1.4 / 0.6 / 0.269
Mike Laster, Ohio - 21.8 / 4.4 / 2.1 / 0.5 / 0.408
Ryan Taylor, Ohio - 32.1 / 9.9 / 2.9 / 1.6 / 0.484

RE: 2015 Basketball Freshmen of the year
well, the all frosh team will probably be
meyer, cmu
sellers, bsu
bearden, buffalo
taylor, ohio
robotham, akron
with tyler, bsu and lamont, wmu in the hunt
i like robotham and taylor the best. robo is a smooth pg with a lot of skill and confidence. will have a good career. taylor could be a star as he has a really nice shot and has touch from different angles and spots on the floor. he's got good guard size and athleticism and is getting lots of pt without undue pressure on a thin OU roster. bearden is really good too. can break down defenses and score or dish. meyer is one of the more physically gifted big men to enter the league in a while. still needs to polish up his overall game. stuckey mosley from toledo is starting to get his confidence. really skilled big pg with a nice shot. won't make his impact until juice brown leaves, but watch out. sellers from bs is good. i think his numbers are a bit inflated as he was their go to guy for the first 2 months, but should be a 4 year starter on an improving bsu team.

I don't think Sellers numbers are inflated. He was and will be their go to guy. If Sellers were chucking up shots at a 30% clip, I would agree. But, he's a wing player shooting 45% which is pretty good.
I think Jeremie Tyler is academically ineligible at the moment.

RE: 2015 Basketball Freshmen of the year
Here is a late entry. Logan McLane, 6-9 freshman power forward for Miami, has started the last two games. At NIU he had 11 points and 7 rebounds, at Toledo he had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Those were Miami's two best road performances of the season, winning at NIU and losing in the last minute to Toledo. McLane made a difference.

mclane looked good at toledo. solid all around player. not real dynamic yet, but some potential. miami sure needs some interior help.

It's hard to pass on Ohio's redshirt freshmen Khari Harley and Jaaron Simmons, especially with all the talent they lost.
2 out of 5. Ball State had 3 potential FOYs, and I picked the wrong one.

Way-to-early prediction for MAC Freshmen of the Year for 2016:
Jaylen Key; PG Northern Illinois
Jalone Friday; PF, Bowling Green
Jaelen Sanford; PG, Toledo
Jalen Avery; PG Kent State
Jaylin Walker; SG Kent State
OK, just kidding.

Great call on Mayelben, though. His 16 points, 15 rebounds and 17 fouls in 190 minutes has to be reassuring for a Falcon fans that their future is in good hands.
