Will Rutgers Make a Bowl This Year
They have 5 wins to date and have Indiana, Michigan St, and Maryland left. They better win this week. Don't see them beating Michigan St and Maryland is not a gimme either. Hope to travel to the Maryland game. GO RUTGERS

Yeah, I'd favor Maryland in that last game, so nailing it down this weekend seems likely to be a key. Might put them in Detroit against a fellow former Big East school.

Though Indiana may be fired up, with the game their only real chance to finish out of the Eastern Division cellar.

I have my doubts on whether or not we will eek out the 6th win. I also am questioning whether or not it wouldn't be beneficial in the long-run if we didn't get the 6th win as it will almost certainly result in the ouster of Kyle Flood.

Rutgers AD Julie Hermann gave Kyle Flood a 3 year extension. I don't know why Rutgers did that but because they did, I really doubt that they will fire him after this year regardless of the final record. 03-banghead

I believe Rutgers bowls this year which is quite an accomplishment in their first Big 10 season coming from a conference where football was not considered the preeminent sport it is in the B10.

I don't see Flood out after this year even if they lose out. I'm not sure it wouldn't be for the best, but have trouble picturing it.

The extension is a trojan horse of sorts. The increased buyout, raise and extra years don't take effect until January 1. It was designed to take away the whole Flood might not be there negative recruiting tool. But the deal was designed to make it still affordable to get rid of him if things went really sour. At 6-6 he almost certainly buys himself another year. At 7-5 he sadly probably deserves another year. At 5-7 I think he's likely gone. Its 3 years in a row at that point where the team gets worse each week as the season goes on. I can't imagine Julie wouldn't be looking to make her first high visibility hire at that point.

Being 5-7 is the best thing that can happen to Rutgers football.

I won't root for Rutgers to lose games, but I don't think Flood is the right captain for the ship.

Don't give up on Flood. I know the Big Ten struggles but 7-5 in the AAC doesn't compare to what you guys did this year; I mean who but us diehards actually know or care that cinci beat ecu by 8 last night. improvement is all you can ask for as a coach and that is what moves programs forward. Also i want to state Edsall has moved Maryland into the conference very nicely. I will admit Gregg Schiano sounds really cool to me honest but flood needs time to prove himself.

I don't think the issue is so much with game day coaching or the record, but the fact that his recruiting has not been good despite having the ability to sell the Big Ten, something Greg Schiano did not have. He did have a nice recruiting class at one point last season and then a lot of things fell apart and basically the whole class decommitted. This year the class hasn't been great either.

Recruiting rankings aren't everything, but as a Illinois fan, you know that you had more succeess when you had the guys Zook and Mike Locksley were bringing in. My concern is what happens when there are no Schiano recruits left.

Can't happen now. Oh well, maybe next year.

So, is this going to be "Welcome to Detroit!" for Rutgers? Now that is a real recruiting draw card.

Didn't expect them to win when they went through the Ohio St, Nebraska, Wisconsin buzz saw, but they should have beat Penn State. Probably could have ended up 8 and 4 with a win over Penn St and a potential win over Maryland. That would have been a very successful first year in the B-10. Anyway Rutgers is now going bowling and they still have 2 tough games remaining. Don't see an upset at Michigan St and at this point the Maryland game is still a toss up. Also like many I'm still not sold on Flood yet either but 6 & 6 with a bowl bid gets him another year and 7 & 5 gets him a couple of more years unless Rutgers totally tanks next year. Hoping for the best - GO Rutgers.
