The home BB schedule
is awful this year as it has been too often in the past. I have my season tickets but its not going to be worth the money paid out. A 1 pm game on New Year's Eve? Really? Wichita State is going to pound us, its too early in the season with such a young team. I'm usually very positive but I don't have a good feeling about this year. I will be there and support my Tigers and hope I am wrong wrong wrong.

Stephen F Austin and NC Central are solid mid-majors...

Oklahoma State, UConn, Cincy, SMU, Tulsa...those are good teams.

Please don't insult people's intelligence by throwing out the SFA and NC Central games.

Tulsa?

I actually like the 1 pm New Year's eve game. You get a chance to go to a game and still have to whole night to go to a party somewhere. Sure beats the 8 pm game they had on New Year's eve a few years back. I have issue with the 840 pm tip time vs Bradley on Sat. Dec 6th. What is this the NBA Western Conference playoffs? Saturday night home games are gold. Why in the world would a Memphis-Bradley game be assigned such a late slot? Crowd will easily be 25% less for this one. It's a shame too. This game reminds me of the old MVC battles at the MSC.

All in the name of neutral court games, preseason tourneys & weak arse coaches being afraid to play real road games, the fans are being tossed to the side. I literally watched Baylor vs UK at jerry world play before maybe 10k. Why couldn't that have been at Baylor for those fans...?

RE: The home BB schedule
Wow, a criticism of the home BB schedule that I didn't start...........but I agree. Just like FB, the P5 are gaining the superior rep simply because they are P5 schools. The BB-weak SEC is a prime case. Beyond UK & UF, who do they have yet they will likely garner more tourney invites than the AAC. We will continue to see the erosion of the non-P5 schools in terms of tourney invitations because the P5 schools control the process. The irony is that by scheduling the way we do, the regular season means of comparing P5 and non-P5 schools greatly diminishes the argument that non-P5 schools belong. Agree the process & the tourney are much better than in FB where the cartel is in full control but unless schools like Memphis don't schedule enough P5 schools to protect their standing, this process will eventually lead to a complete P5 dominance that will be impossible to reverse. We see it now in tourney seeding, in TV money and will see the deck stacked more and more if the trend isn't stopped by improved scheduling.

Too many people don't have New Year's Day off and you are correct about Bradley. People with children (future Tigers) won't be able to come to the 8:40 pm game.

I'm not saying you don't schedule some weak teams, but we don't have any exciting home games except for Ok State until 1/15. (Cincy). That is 2 months into the season. It may work out since this team is so young and needs all the playing time together they can get.

Over the past 6 years we have had 3 games on New Years Eve.
December 31, 2013 6pm- @USF
December 31, 2011 8pm - Charlotte
December 31, 2009 3pm - Tennessee

This year's game is a conference game. Some of the other AAC teams are playing on the 30th but the Grizzlies are playing that night. So we would have either had to play a day game on the 30th when a lot of people would be working or play it on the 31st when most people are off. We can't play it on the 2nd because we play Tulane on the 3rd. So part of it is because we share an arena with the Grizzlies.
