RE: What do we know about Bill Carr and the Study?
UAB is all my son has ever known since his birth in 1998. He been disappointed bur each year he looks forward to Football and Basketball. The rumored pending action will destroy future fans and potential students for this university. Academics come first, but football is the ambassador for the university to those students in order that they may look a little deeper as to what the university offers.

I don't think it will make a specific recommendation to do anything. The BOT will attempt to then kill athletics in the name of fiscal responsibility. The good news is that they will have to fight the public opinion and capital commitments from the Foundation and City of Birmingham.
Could also be that the Foundation started all this noise in an effort to energize alumni and get more donations.
I realize that goes against the standard opinion on this board but I'm not much of a follower.

What do we know about Bill Carr and the Study?
I'm glad that as a fan base we are being proactive rather than reactive. But I am starting to wonder if all of our conclusions are accurate. I agree that there seems to be a great deal of secrecy but we are assuming our administration is in on it with the BOT. Could be that our administration is actually preparing a counter attack against the BOT.
I don't have a good explanation for the lack of scheduled games and Clarks contract length, but those may be dictated by the BOT for all we know.
Main point from me is I'm not going to completely throw Watts and Mackin under the bus until we know exactly what's going on. It's great to be proactive and supportive but we don't need to be nasty towards some of the administration who might be actually on our side and trying to secretly lead a counter attack. It's not out of the question in my mind that Watts or Mackin could have learned about some BOT plans and leaked information to insiders that later led to the UAB football foundation and the current response.
You can't do anything in the light of day when it comes to the BOT. Much happens in the shadows. If you didn't handle your opposition to the BOT in the shadows, you wouldn't last at UAB til the next BOT meeting.

I don't believe that, but I'll concede it for the sake of argument.
If it were true then bombarding Watts tells him we have his back.

I agree with all of this. I also think it would be strange to announce the end of the program the year after a great coaching hire in the midst of the best season in recent memory.
It would make more sense to make such an announcement after last season instead of pulling Clark from another in-state program where he was performing well. Prior to that, no matter how terrible he ended up being, they hired Coach McGee and that was also viewed as a great hire at the time. These just don't seem like the actions of a system that intends to shut down a football program.
If they are actually intending to shut down the program after this season then their actions the past few seasons make very little sense and their timing is extremely suspect.

Alternative perspective
Is it possible that the "original" premise of the study was "sold" as a means to accelerate the support for football and disclosed to Coach Clark during his hiring. Meaning it was presented to him as a Positive. And once launched, the study has been "influenced" by outside forces. Hence, many were duped including Mackin and above. Just offering an alternative here guys.
My hypothesis allows the BOT to claim they had nothing to do with this, while UAB tears itself in two (quoting from a previous post), especially if UAB hired the firm to do the study.

So, if my hypothesis is true, then an alternative study should be conducted by the Foundation, or the current study needs a well crafted counter proposal from an independent third party.
If Carr was hired as an expert witness per se, then we need our own expert witness. Or discredit Carr and their work.

That's the entire point. If 5-5 and 13,000 people in attendance is the best UAB football can muster, it's strange people on this board wonder why football is considering being dropped in the first place.
Good point... IF we had had a home game, just one, with less than 13,000 people present. We haven't and you know it, Trollzilla. Also, since 5-5 coming off multiple 2-to-4 win seasons has produced an average attendance above 20,000, imagine what a season with the same coaching staff and most of the same players coming off a bowl game would produce.

Monkeytown Blazer, if this is your version of supporting UAB I'd hate to see it if you were to turn against us.

Faster than the wind and I don't blame him. Unless he is paid off I hope he tells all he knows.
Clark strikes me as his own man. If this goes down he'll likely burn the house down on his way out. He knows his market value.

Unfortunately a coach's "market value" is affected by his willingness to the nasty secrets of his former employers under raps. Future employers want to be assured that they are not going to be dragged unwillingly into media spotlight if their relationship with their new coach they are about to hire someday goes sour. Coaches seeking new employment don't want to screw up their futures to get even with their former program. That and severance agreements, which in some cases contain "hush money" non non-disclosure agreements keep most coaches from spilling beans later. Expect Clark to say nothing if he leaves UAB because of this mess.

To a certain degree I agree. But this is an extraordinary circumstance almost unprecedented. I'm sure he feels he's been publicly lied to and he's got a reputation as a straight shooter. I'm sure any hush money would gladly reimbursed by boosters of his new employer just so he could lower the boom on those in power. It's a funny world that way

Some of you guys are acting like Clark has developed a lifelong allegiance to UAB. Quit looking through your green and gold glasses. The guy has been here for less than a year, and he had no connection to UAB heretofore. It's a job. He left his alma mater after just one season. He will be more than happy to strike while the iron is hot again and move on to a bigger paycheck, and there's nothing wrong with that, BTW.
