DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University will honor its 2014 football seniors, and current and former members of the military, fire and police departments, on Tuesday, Nov. 11 when the Huskies take on Toledo in the final home contest of 2014. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
NIU's 19 seniors will be introduced (No TLL so they are still confident at the Medical RS), along with their parents, prior to the game in the annual Senior Day ceremonies. In addition,
NIU is inviting all current and former members of the military, fire and police departments to attend the game at a discounted price of just $14 per ticket, and will recognize them during the contest. At halftime, the NIU ROTC will hold a commissioning ceremony on the field. The Huskies are also holding their annual NIU Faculty/Staff Appreciation game, and will
welcome back NIU great Michael Turner as the Huskie Legend. There will be a special national anthem performance by recording artist/actress Annie Baltic.
Tickets for Tuesday night's game are on sale now at the NIU Athletics Ticket Office in the Convocation Center during regular business hours, by calling 815-753-PACK (7225) and can be ordered online 24 hours a day, seven days a week at NIUHuskies.com/tickets. Tickets on the West Side are priced at $40, $36 and $25 (depending on location), while East Side General Admission tickets are $20 each. Or,
fans can receive a voucher to purchase an East Side ticket for just $14 by bringing a canned food item for the Salvation Army Canned Food Drive being coordinated by the NIU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and dropping it off at the boxes located next to the Salvation Army kettle bells on either side of Huskie Stadium on game day.
On-field offensive fireworks have become commonplace in the annual match-up between NIU (7-2, 4-1 MAC) and Toledo (6-3, 5-0 MAC). For the 2014 game,
NIU will present actual fireworks during the national anthem and for every Huskie touchdown scored. For the first time, fireworks will be staged from the roof of the Yordon Center.
Prior to the game, the NIU Office of Military Student Services will hold a Veteran's Day Parade along Stadium Drive, beginning on Stadium Drive East at 4 p.m. The parade participants will include members of NIU's veteran population, the NIU Veteran's Association float, the NIU ROTC and veteran community members, police, firefighters and EMTs. The parade will conclude at The Yard on the West Side of Huskie Stadium.
For the Toledo game,
The Yard, NIU's FREE official pregame tailgate area, will open at 4:30 p.m. CT, two-and-a-half hours prior to kickoff. In addition to
a visit from Huskie Legend Michael Turner, the Yard will feature the
band Red Woody, the NIU wrestling team and a special Allstate Interactive Kids Zone with interactive games, a photo kiosk and more. The
Beer Garden will feature special pricing for this game.
The Huskies have not forgotten our loyal student fans on Tuesday night!
There will be thunderstix and free hot chocolate for the first 2,000 students to enter on the East Side of Huskie Stadium. (only 2k?) Students are also invited to wear your most colorful (and warm) costumes and Tweet a picture of yourself in costume at the game to @NIUAthletics using the hashtag #ColdCostumes and you could win an exclusive NIU Athletics experience!
