Any word on the closed VA Tech scrimmage?
The Bucs had a closed scrimmage against Tech scheduled yesterday. http://www.wjhl.com/story/27333866/bucs-...ball-court

Any word on that?

"I want to develop our inside game more so we can play Alex Bates more, Ike Banks more," Bartow said. "We need to be able to go bigger, but also, if we are small, we've gotta get creative defensively."

I've heard soundbites like this for 11 years. No need to say "we need...I should", coach, make it happen. And it looks like Ron Giplaye is getting Andrew Reed/Greg Hamlin treatment. Murry already has his mind made up, probably based on astrology, certainly not on evidence-based results.

Why is he so high on Bates? The kid has had 4 years at two different schools to show something, anything and he has shown nothing. He is on the court taking up space, that is about it, he has produced nothing and it isn't like he was playing at a much higher level then the SoCon. But once Bartow makes up his mind, that is it.

I was not able to listen to call-in show tonight, but bucfan4life filled me in. Bartow shared two items of particular interest: First, he said that Lester had a "stellar" performance against VT in the closed scrimmage. Given how critical he's been of Lester, I feel thrilled about those remarks. Second, Bartow also commented on Giplaye, saying he's ahead of the other frontcourt players. I am encouraged by both of these statements.

Giplaye is crucial - most bulk on the team, regained athleticism. Lester could be the real deal if the defense is emerging, although I worry he's still just a stretch 4 in the wrong sense - meaning it's a real stretch to plug him there on defense.

Hopefully he got some tips from Buzz on how to manage a severely undersized team.

Well if Lester's first game as a freshman versus VT is any indication, he may really love playing against them haha

Or some tips from Buzz about how he got UT"s prize recruit away from them...

I think the timing of the NCAA investigation into Tyndall's time at Southern Miss likely had a lot to do with flipping that recruit.
