Great Post.

+2 I do fear you're about to get ripped for it but yes, a great post.

Why ripped? No one denies basketball built the foundation for football. But what was it that allowed Louisville, Cincy, Memphis, Tulsa, Houston, et. al. to move up together? It was football. The way I read it, KevMo gets that and realizes the problem is not that we had football - because the new landscape required it absolutely. It's that UAB athletics, most visibly football, was shackled. Now, thanks to that, we're in a dangerous "no man's land" where the only best choice is to push forward. Sitting still or going backwards is death. Or close enough to it.

yeah what is up with people making otherwise wonderful posts and then spoiling it with ridiculous statements like this.... That the a10 isn't a step up from CUSA. As someone who wants us to keep football, I actually can't believe anyone is even bringing up CUSA or even basketball because neither are arguments FOR keeping football. CUSA Baketball is garbage... Goodnight Blazer family. I'm going to take that Advil. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for UAB.

Well, basketball does have a lot to do with this. If we did lose football and didn't get into the A10, we would be relegated to the A-sun which is way worse than CUSA in basketball. I hate to say it, but if we were playing in the A-Sun, I probably would never watch UAB sports again.

BamaScorpio69 if the UA BOT can end UAB football just like that, what makes you think they stop at football. What would stop them from gutting every program there is including basketball, or what would stop them from dropping UAB down to DII or DIII.

I don't want to sound mean or anything but any of that is a real possibility. When you are at the mercy of people without your best interest anything bad can and most likely will happen.

There isn't any talk of ending basketball so I want even speculate on that. But reading the thoughts of others here, if the BOT did do away with UAB Football they might as well shutdown UAB Athletics because no one will support it.

From what Ive read UA wants to gut the UAB undergrad schools and send them from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa. Leaving UAB with a few BA programs and the medical school. If this was to happen then the UA BOT could use that against UAB. And do what they want and this time say they have cause. Something they haven't had yet.

I like UAB but if they vote to fold UAB Football, I just don't see them stopping there.

I've heard that too. There are a lot of things going currently that would make absolutely no sense if that was the intentions of the BOT. They just accepted donations to build a new soccer stadium. There are currently building a new student center that I believed cost over $35 million dollars. Hell, they even let UAB get new football uniforms which I am sure cost some money. And there is a lot of infrastructure in place that would be empty if UAT wanted to gut the majority of UAB undergrad programs.

If that is truly the case, then UAT should just take everything and put in Tuscaloosa and allow Birmingham to establish its own university with its own BOT. Sounds wild and ludicrous right?

With that being said with tbe uniforms and the coaching hire wouldn't it be easier to say that they have no plans of terminating football. As far as terminating the undergrad side, I don't see that, as of yet. Put who's to say some undergrad programs won't get cut. Dominoes fall

Alright, that's just straight up bull****. Look at what you quoted from my post. Seriously, read it...I'll wait. Now you specifically pointed out I was wrong because I said football is required and KevMo said the problem is not football but that "certain members of the UA BOM (Board of Mistrust) have intentionally kept UAB football from being successful."

Now look at the post you lifted my quote from. Again, I'll wait. The very next sentence, which you omitted when quoting said post (intentionally?) reads:

Quote:...It's that UAB athletics, most visibly football, was shackled.

That's exactly the point KevMo made and I agreed, do agree, with him. Wanna spar with me? Ok. But have the balls to debate what I actually said rather than pulling out what you think proves your point.

First, I didn't lift anything from your quote because I didn't quote anything from your post. I quoted what KevMo said. Yes, you are confused and I understand that because sometimes your intellectual mind can sometimes get overloaded because you're too busy interpreting someone's quote and making it support your argument.

You didn't quote anything from my post?!? Is this the real world? Look at your post after I responded to KevMo. First thing: "blazr wrote:" And, indeed, the beginning of my reply to KevMo is quoted. The beginning because somehow the rest of that reply, where I agreed with KevMo (contrary to what you accused me of), is not included. Are you 8 years old? Or 80? Seriously.

I did not quote anything you said. I quoted what Kev said. Simply go back and look at what Kev said and look at what I quoted from Kev. It's not that difficult.

Now I hope we are on the same page. I disagree with your interpretation of what KevMo said. I think you interpreted in a way to support your argument.

Kev clearly said put him in the group of people who believes football has hurt basketball. Kev also acknowledges that UAB Football hasn't been given what it needs to succeed from certain entities.

So while you acknowledge that football allowed UAB to play schools such as Memphis, Louisville, Cincy, etc, KevMo is acknowledging football has also prevented UAB from continuing to play those schools. Kinda like damn if you do and damn if you don't.

Now how you got your interpretation of what he said is completely on you. My apologies for the confusion and how about you chill out with the name calling. Not necessary.

This is what UA should have done about 40 years ago, a few years after UAB was granted University status instead of being an extension of UA. And told them to sink or swim. It would have been the right thing to do.

We have watched team after team leave C-USA as their football programs have taken them to greener pastures. UAB has been left behind because of UAB football. Instead of playing Louisville, Cincy, Memphis, Tulsa, and Houston, UAB now plays the likes of FAU, FIU, North Texas, and UTSA. Before that we played DePaul, Marquette, and St. Louis, who all chose not to start football programs.

However, little of this has been UAB's fault. UAB football has not been given the resources and the facilities to compete at this level, and that too has been out of our hands. I believe certain members of the UA BOM (Board of Mistrust) have intentionally kept UAB football from being successful. It's been their plan from day one. One is coming up for retirement, and he wants nothing more than to kill UAB football before he retires from the BOM.

Although UAB basketball is what made me a fan of all things UAB, I have fallen in love with UAB football over the years. I hurt just as much now from a UAB football loss as I do from a UAB basketball loss. It sickens me to know people are trying to shut down UAB football. It's war!

How you interpreted what KevMo said:

blazr Wrote:Why ripped? No one denies basketball built the foundation for football. But what was it that allowed Louisville, Cincy, Memphis, Tulsa, Houston, et. al. to move up together? It was football. The way I read it, KevMo gets that and realizes the problem is not that we had football - because the new landscape required it absolutely. It's that UAB athletics, most visibly football, was shackled. Now, thanks to that, we're in a dangerous "no man's land" where the only best choice is to push forward. Sitting still or going backwards is death. Or close enough to it.

RE: A-10? Makes no difference.
It appears to me that there is a confusion of "cause and effect" of why UAB has not moved to better conferences. In my opinion, the reason we have not been invited to move is the perception that UAB has never been nor can ever be "Master of its own ship".No matter what the President of UAB or the AD might say, it is always contingent upon what the system BOT will allow to happen. None of those "moving up" schools has that problem with a nonresident BOT.

In Alabama politics, it is like the state legislature that won't permit poor rural counties to tax "absentee landowners" who own most of the most valuable land. The rural counties are dominated by people who are thereby sheltered from taxes but live elsewhere and pay those taxes for THEIR kids schools. UAB is similarly dominated by those whose primary loyalty is to the Crimson (athletic) programs, and that makes those conferences twice cautious about dealing with UAB.

Only the great respect they had for Gene Bartow got UAB as far as it got in his lifetime. We have not gotten more than the time of day from those folks since then.

RE: A-10? Makes no difference.
I know it's probably irrelevant, but as a Saint Louis fan, I'd love to see the Blazers in the A-10 IF it came to that.

We shared a league once, and I don't have anything but respect for your teams.

PS--getting kicked out of C-USA was probably a good thing for SLU...but it's a different world without football.
