RE: Stony Brook In Game Thread
We had between 200-300 people at SB yesterday cheering for JMU. It may sound odd to those not there in person, but it never felt like we were going to lose this game at any point. The energy on the sideline was off the chart. The onside kick made sense based on how much we had them on their heels at the time. The coaching staff is very calm and motivating during the game. They listen to the players and they make adjustments.

I would not want to play this JMU team right now. They have a chip on their shoulder and they have a "can't lose" attitude. This feels like 2008 but better.

No better feeling than being undefeated in CAA play and a guranteed playoff home game .

Agree. Despite being down by 14 a couple of times, the crowd seemed ready for the comeback. It was just a question of when it was going to start. There was great energy. I don't go to many JMU away games (one a year) but this was the best one I've been to in a very long time. I'm much more excited about this JMU team.

And I fully stand behind my comments on Marlowe. He may get a shot in the NFL, but he has been exposed a bit this year in coverage. I hope he makes it, but he isn't dominant on THIS level.

You'all were saying the game was over. Too many pre mature calls of we suck and the games over in a # of games this year that JMU has been down but ended up winning. If someone was following along the thread but not listening watching they would have thought JMU was down by 3-4 TDs the 1st half way people were acting.

Easy to go back and play Monday Morning QB on the game thread. I think many of us are of the mindset "expect the worst and you will never be disappointed". Yup I am guilty of that. But what we also have is a group of passionate fans that invested 4 hours on a Saturday trying to watch their team via one of the worst video productions known to Man, I enjoy the banter and the typing of our real time thoughts on the game thread ......and yes we often overreact in the process.

+1

Speak for yourself 04-cheers I remain calm, cool, collected, positive, and full of level headednes during the games

I do too, but in their defense, we are not exactly used to pulling those types of games out the last few years.

RE: Stony Brook In Game Thread
I'd like to hear Withers commments tomorrow. I couldn't see many formations because of the crappy camera work, but it appeared JMU brought another defender into the box the entire second half.
I'm not sure if the D-line played any better or if the Dukes just brought an extra defender into the mix to stop the run. From what I saw JMU played a 4-3 most of the game, but the 2nd half included a safety near the LOS to outnumber the Stony Brook run blockers.

It was a good move, because Stony Brook was gashing JMU in the first half and their QB was their weakest link. He had his best game of the season against JMU yet it wasn't enough to offset the lack of a running attack in the 2nd half.

Oh ye of little faith...

So we're playing that game Doug? It was a bad half, and we made 2nd half adjustments.

I'm obviously no koolaid drinker on here. Just saying it's silly to say ballgame or game, set, match when only down by 2 scores 1st half. That's all.

RE: Stony Brook In Game Thread
I love general seating away games as the view from the 50 yd. line was great. And the SB stadium is right on top of the field. It was the closest to the sidelines and the team that we have been all year.

There were some tell tale signs during the first half that made me feel optimistic that we could back come from two scores down. One was when Daniel Browns long TD reception was called back and we scored again on the very next play from even further out when Hyman scored. The body language on the SB defense was saying: Wow! And their D backs were arguing with each other. It was a definite momentum builder for us and a confidence shredder for them.

Also during the first half when we were clicking with our hurry up offense, SB was gassed, sucking wind, leading to them taking 2 rest and recovery time outs. Their conditioning was suspect and it was still in the first half. With their history of going up early against New Hampshire and William and Mary and then failing in the second half, why not once again.

During that last first half drive when Vad turned nothing into a whirling dervish run that put us in chip shot FG range, I was confident that if we could score before the half, we could come out with momentum when receiving the second half kickoff.

SB is a big team at all positions, but bigness doesn't mean 4 quarters worth of conditioning. After the game Coach said it goes back to all those 5:45 am workouts, I believe it, as we are truly a 4 quarters team.

With that said, I would prefer to be ahead the entire game!

my first thought after enjoying the TD was "MM would have run the ball and prepared to punt".

love the new coaching style ! Play to WIN the game instead of play not to lose.

Tip of the hat (or maybe a pat) to the coaching staff for their offseason emphasis on conditioning. It seems like it is paying dividends here late in the season.

Something else that needs to be mentioned...the play by play on the radio broadcast was 100% better than Schickman. Concise and accurate.

I'll miss Schick's voice, but if Saturday was a preview of things to come, it is a big upgrade.

It was real cool to meet so many fans, especially jmuroadwarrior, STO1982, and Chris from New Jersey (not sure of his screen name) this weekend.

I thought JMU traveled very well. Our crowd was into it and having a great time. You could see the players really respond to our section. It was a chilly, but otherwise beautiful day. A great time at the tailgate, although looking back, we should have all taken over a specific bar in Port Jeff after the game :)

Finally, what an exciting game...Stony Brook has made vast improvements in the month since i have seen them in person. A great win, and it definitely left me psyched that I can make it to Bridgeforth should there be a first round home playoff game!

and kudos back to you. It was great meeting the eastern LI contingent! Our group of 4 ended up at Tommy's Place after the game and another Duke fan and his son was there too. So spontaneously we were at adjacent tables and shared post game thoughts and euphoria with them. Hopefully we keep playing and we'll see you again at a game this season!

Hey Pike, that's me! I caught a lot of names but didn't trade screen names, so you'll have to let me know who you were.

It was a great time, and the win made it even greater. There were quite a few JMU folks at The Bench, a bar across the street from the Stony Brook train station. Jeff Bourne and his family and Les Branich were there, along with a few smaller groups of fans.

It's a shame we're going to the CUSA, because it would be fun to go back to SBU again sometime. 05-stirthepot
