What's the best place for Oyster Po Boys?

Locals swear by those served on Locals swear by those served on Mondays and Wednesdays by Parkway Bakery and Tavern (http://www.parkwaypoorboys.com/) but I can't seem to make it to N.O. on those days. A great local spot for oyster po boys that I really like is Parasol's (http://www.parasolsbarandrestaurant.com/) off of Magazine Street in the Garden District. They also serve killer onion rings and a great firecracker shrimp po boy (fried shrimp doused in hot sauce). There are many great dives serving po boys, though.

Yeah, I'm usually a weekend warrior. I heard Parasols was good also.

02-13-banana I don't know why but we were dining at Commanders Palace one time and the chef came out and invited us to tour the kitchen. It was a great and interesting treat to go behind the scenes. We were also given a Commanders Palace cook book. Great visit and a good time.

WW2 Museum is incredible! Spent 2 1/2 hours there and felt a little rushed before the first NO Bowl back in '03.

Mother's. The best.

And most of you probably know this, but before you get out of town on Sunday morning, go by Café du Monde for chicory coffee and the world famous beignets. My favorite location is the main one in the French Market but there are five or six others out in the burbs.

Mothers is as polarizing as the Rendezvous. Some folks swear by it and some folks think it's a terrible tourist trap.

I feel the same way about both places...everyone should go at least once and make their own decision.

My Dad grew up there, used to take to me to all of the off the beaten path places. But this was his go to for po' boys. I could be prejudiced. You are right, it's a place you have to try.

You can get a good po' boy at any of the Copeland's in the area.

Haven't been to N.O. in a few years, but Felix's was always on my list for the oysters bienville.

I appreciate the suggestions mentioned in this thread. My wife and I plan to see the Tiger/Tulane game in January and the resturant list will definitely be consulted.

For seafood, add Deanie's to your list. On Lake Pontchartrain in the Bucktown area it has been there about 40 years and was spared by Katrina. It isn't a fancy place but the food is great. Our family has gathered here for all kinds of events over the years. Last time I was there was about three months before Katrina.

There is also an ACME Oyster House near Deanie's. Which is better?

Glad you mentioned Deanie's. I've attempted to go there, but both times the lines were out the door and I didn't have the patience to wait. I have to admit, however, that both times were high traffic hours that one could expect any great restaurant to be super busy.

If you just want oysters on the half shell, check out ACME. If you want a great seafood platter, take an extra Lipitor and go to Deanie's.

One in the casino at the end of Canal too.

Try Buffas for local bar scene.
