Cochon Butcher is the best.
John Besh's restaurants at the WWII museum are very good too - especially the quick breakfast place.
I still love the Napoleon House.
And the fried chicken at Coop's Place is really good.

I was in New Orleans this weekend. Jumped into a parade, danced with strangers to a brass band, drank vodka out of a champagne bottle, made out with a girl on a dance floor, got punched in the back of the head, and broke my glasses.

Pretty good little Saturday.

GO TIGERS GO!

I would also recommend Willie Mae's Scotch House for fried chicken.

Another vote for Jacques-Imo's....I seriously had the best meal of my life there 6 or so years ago.

Tell the hostess you'll be waiting in the Maple Leaf Bar next door, have an Abita or three, and they'll come find you.

That is a place I need to try. I have a dozen or more cousins in Nawlins, and I have heard great things about this relative newcomer.

My first suggestion:
Shrimp & alligator sausage cheesecake for an appetizer.

YUM.

Okay, I'll weigh in on tourism this go 'round. For the kids:

--Louisiana Children's Museum, in the Warehouse District. It's very highly regarded.
--Audobon Zoo, particularly the Swamp exhibit.
--Riding the St. Charles streetcar, especially past the incredible mansions and past Tulane/Loyola to the Carollton area.
--The "Train Garden" inside the Botanic Gardens located in City Park. (It's a miniature train/trolley set that the young ones love. It was my son's favorite place to go in N.O when he was 4 and 5; now that he's 6 he's already asking if we can go again.) The Train Garden section, I believe, is only open Sat and Sun afternoons -- check before you go.
--The Bestoff Sculpture Garden, just outside the Botanic Gardens.
--The Aquarium
--The Insectarium on Canal Street
--The free ferry across the Mississippi to Algiers and back
--There's even a Mardi Gras Float Museum (can't remember the name right off) that hear kids love but that I haven't visited yet

. . . and the list could go on. As I tell my coworkers who think that N.O. is just an extension of Bourbon, it really does offer a great many options for families.

Great list for kids. My 3 boys loved the Insectarium on our trip this summer. They got to eat chocolate "chirp" cookies there.

FYI, the ferry isn't free anymore, but it is only 1.25 each way (I think), and the Mardi Gras Museum is called "Mardi Gras World"
