If Memphis beating us dominantly this year sparks a fire which leads to a totally natural (and much needed) rivalry, then so be it! The Special Recipe Trophy! Losing team hands over a display case holding a BBQ recipe and a chili recipe, and the winning team cooks the both teams their city's recipe!
I have no idea what the hell you're talking about.
Memphis isn't a "rivalry." It just isn't. That being said, I just plain dislike them and their fans. That's not a rivalry, that's just plain dislike. If we had beaten Memphis, I'd have EXACTLY the same reaction.
As for creating trophies... Well, if you have to actually create one that is the kiss-of-death right there. Real rivalries and real trophies are NOT created.
But if you need something like this to "float your boat," then whatever.
It's not a rivalry because we lead 19-13. Our win column will only increase if we keep playing.

On a side note, while certainly not a juggernaut, maybe our defense isn't quite as bad as first thought. I've seen Duke Johnson run all over several teams since we played Miami, and tO$U went like a hot knife through butter on MSU vaunted defense for a TD in 6 straight possessions.

I agree. I think the UC defense can hold its own the rest of the way. Early on this year, there was never a defensive back anywhere near an opponent's receivers and the middle of the line was as sturdy as a paper fence. I really believe the 'Cats will prevail Thursday night and set the table for a strong finish and yet another bowl game.

Sorry if I do not get excited over the Tiger High wins vs UC from the 70's and 80's.
Tiger High was the better team on that night. Not sure how many times we have to congratulate you, before you go away. Many are irritated since many thought the UC program was further along than it currently is right now. Just be happy with the win.

I know, that River City Rivalry was so stupid and not at all fun. We shoulda never created a name and trophy for such a stupid idea. Ahh who cares, none of us cared about that game anyway.
People are upset that we are in a conference with crappy money. Forget that. Im pissed we are in a conference with zero historical football "rivals". Rivalries gotta start somehow, and why not with a city similar to ours, with an overall head to head record that is relatively close, that was already apparently a rival in basketball, and the fans are already testy with eachother in year one of a new conference. Its not like I'm suggesting we make up a rivalry with UCF or Tulane, as neither of those make any sense. College football was rivalries. More rivalries, with related schools, is never a bad thing.
