Why wouldn't they? They think we should focus all our efforts on Soccer and Basketball and get rid of Football. This buys into their agenda.

Of course it was because it isn't football.

This is good news. I really enjoy UAB soccer. A new venue is needed to get to a level where we can compete for national championships.

Excellent news! Soccer deserves it, they have worked hard to put a product on the field we can be proud of and now they are be rewarded...just as it should be.

I imagine we will only see greater things come from our soccer team due to this investment.

Big quote from Watts. Little quote from Mackin.

CONGRATS to UAB soccer. That great program deserves the support.

Yep, great for the soccer program. Let's hope that Watts, Mackin, and the BOT apply the same logic used to approve this facility to not kill football and allow a private donation to fund a new practice facility.

RE: New Soccer Venue
Great, I'm glad we're being allowed to utilize resources for the Men's Soccer program. I remember speaking with Coach Getman some when I was a student intern and he's a great guy. I interned for BBVA Compass my last semester of college and they do contribute a lot to UAB Athletics. Actually wearing a UAB polo I got from that internship with BBVA Compass on the sleeve at work today. So my question is Watts can comment on Men's Soccer and improvements but can't comment on Football even though we have private investors ready to build a practice facility? Correct me if I'm wrong but if there's a comprehensive study currently going on in the athletic department isn't Men's Soccer part of that?

Great point. Someone needs to ask why soccer is allowed to invest in the program before the study is released and football isn't. Same exact scenario with private investors willing to build a facility.

Bingo all athletics is supposed to be part of the study I think they have put themselves in a jam with this. Money says it was approved before this sh%% storm and they had to have a press release. How come noone said anything about seeing it on the bot agenda yesterday ?

That's great for soccer and glad for them, but I'm a football fan. I'll say it if anyone else won't, why accept the donation for soccer but not football, American football?

RE: New Soccer Venue
Let's not make this a soccer vs football argument.

UAB is a nationally recognized soccer program. It is also significantly cheaper to field a soccer program than it is football.

I don't want to see football go away for any reason, but I don't want to see our fans turning on our soccer program because something good happened for it.
