I understand that not calling someone out in a thread title vs calling them out in a post is splitting hairs. However, I would like to state unequivocally and without prejudice against anyone that may have done so, that calling out someone specifically in an avatar, a signature or a thread title is unseemly.

I hope to encourage those that have done so to re-think this avenue of approach and to take your concerns with that person to them within a thread, or preferably, directly via PM.

To me it seems sheetty and tactless in most cases. Moreover, it seems like dick waving of a particular sort: "See what I can do?"

It won't be legislated or modded away, but I feel it's distasteful and should be discouraged as a community norm.

And yes, all things considered when something bad has happened to a poster in their real life and they have shared that with the board, the outpouring of compassion from everyone here regardless of our histories does probably show we're all just a bunch of weird-ass friends.
