This is why you take great care before giving battle while in the enemy's country.
Or you could just go off half-cocked and repeat Gettysburg.
Has anyone considered the possibility that this stunt with its ill planning and ill timing is hurting us as much if not more than any enemy of the program could?
So you would sit around and do nothing while "the enemy" could be dismantling our athletic program? At least this has brought it all into the light. At least people are paying attention to what is going on. Is it enough to make a difference? By ourselves, no. But, we now know we have the backing of the community, the county and state leaders.
Could we lose recruits? Maybe. Could we lose Coach Clark after the season? Maybe. You say this is our fault for making noise. It didn't need to get to this point. I say the administration could have been out in front of this letting people know exactly what is going on so there is no speculation. I say the administration could have put out something more than a non-committal POS statement yesterday saying that they were trying to improve athletics, not shut it down.
People are concerned and voicing their opinions. This wasn't something that BlazerTalk folks got together and decided to just do something for no reason. This all started with the business community that supports UAB questioning what was going on and not getting positive (or any) feedback. We just stepped up and are trying to do our bit to help.
If you don't want to help, that's your choice. Did you think Coach Clark wasn't already aware that we have no one scheduled past 2016 and his contract runs out in 2016? I didn't know that and I am alarmed to find out. Is this a distraction to the team? Maybe. Or maybe Coach Clark is good enough to keep them focused on the task at hand. Maybe this spurs the team on even harder knowing they could be playing for their existence.
Jimbo Fisher, Pres Garrison, the OCS, UAH Hockey . . . None of it SHOULD have happened. Everyone at the time all thought it WOULDN'T happen. But, it did. I'm glad people are just sitting around waiting to see what happens. People want to know what is going on. People want to make sure that no one is working to shut us down. The more people paying attention to this, it lessens the chance for underhanded, behind-the-scenes garbage. Do we have enough watching to stop it? Who knows. But, I do know that 100 voices are better than 10. 1000 voices are better than 100. I want as many people watching this voicing their opinion as I can get. If someone is trying to shut us down, I want to make it as hard as possible for them to do so.
Sitting on the sidelines is the same thing as saying you don't care. But, again, that's your right.
