The "study" does not relieve pressure on Watts
I mentioned this in another thread, but UAB fans need to keep the pressure up. Per Watts' statement, he's leaning on "the study" to avoid comment now (and even shift the blame for any imminent bad consequences on proactive UAB supporters and the media). Here's why the pressure can't let up:
The results of that study are due in 8-12 weeks. Meanwhile, Watts is using the pending nature of "the study" to sit on an extension for Clark!! (not to mention scheduling). Action isn't needed to effectively kill football, inaction does it just as well. What would you do for your family's sake if you were on this coaching staff? They bolt - not for a better opportunity because, and this is a fact, Clark wants to be/stay at UAB - and recruiting is dead. Hiring, too, is practically impossible.
If this is the strategy Watts is going to stick with, our only hope is that the Football Foundation can manage to keep Clark here and make the ultimate decision a hard one for Watts and the BOT. They are powerful people, with deep pockets, and the best chance we've got, but - for our part - do NOT relent with the pressure on Watts, the media, et. al.

Great post blazr. We might need Bill to believe in us and agree not to leave after the season. That's going to be difficult, and would require him to take a giant leap of faith, but it may be all we have. Everyone knows good and well that if Clark leaves, that's it.

Yep. Things need to take place over the next few weeks. It cannot wait until some "study" comes out.

Filler raised a good point on the OD as well that Clark was informed by Carr & Associates that UAB was willing to invest in football. Carr did not tell Bill there was a "study." At this point, would it be wise to attempt to get Carr to come out and make a statement? After all, should athletics be decimated, it's not like we'll be paying him again after this.

Yeah, Watts is leaning on this study and when he has the full power to throw the study in the trash. This decision is ultimately his regardless of what the study says.

It's important to keep calling Watts' office and let them know that this benign neglect approach is not only destructive it's unprofessional and reflects poorly on him and the university.

The media needs to start asking some friggin questions. Who authorized the study? When? How much is being spent and out of what part of the budget? Who included UAB football's viability as a part of the study and what parameters were given to Carr?
C'mon Al.com, try to act like a news source and dig!

No inside info with Carr whatsoever, but I doubt the idea of dropping football is located anywhere in their contract for current services or that such action has been mentioned to them at all. All the Administration needs to ask is, "What investment ($$, but also other resources) is needed for football to succeed at its full potential?" If Carr comes back with "an additional $1 per year" Watts can say, "Well, we don't have that so shut it down." Carr doesn't have to be in on this at all. In fact, I doubt they were and I think they were being straight up with Clark because UAB was proactively seeking what we need to do to excel (as far as Carr's information went).
