Where is our AD in all of this mess?
I am really irritated that Brian Mackin has not said one freaking word in any of this. I don't care if he was told to keep his mouth shut. A leader sometimes has to go against the grain and this is one of those times. If he can't be an advocate for HIS department, then it is time to have someone in there that will.

I agree 100%. It's pathetic. Sometimes you have to do the right thing, even if it means getting fired.

Maybe he really knows there is nothing to worry about therefore he should not speak on it.
Oh no....I'm in the denial phase....

He played here and also promised Gene Bartow he would be a good leader for our program before coach passed. At some point you have to stand up, my only hope is he is fighting right now with everything he has to safe this program and school! Mr. AD it's not too late to stand for what is right

He is hiding under his desk in a classic duck-and-cover pose.

Good luck getting that hire approved by the board.

Devil's advocate here: It is possible to fight something without speaking publicly, and if he gets canned for shooting his mouth off, he no longer has power to do anything.
I'm pissed he hasn't said anything as well, though.

If he isn't doing something to fight for Uab, and I know it doesn't have to be done publicly, then he is a poor leader, a coward, and a traitor to gene Bartow

He certainly dropped the ball by not being completely over the moon about the offer of a $10 million, privately funded athletic facility.

UAB Football is much bigger than somebody's job.

Mackin is not making it seem like he needs this job all that badly.

Did you read the whole thread?
His football program is in serious jeopardy, and it sure seems like he doesn't care. Caring about that would be part of his job description, so maybe his job isn't all that important to him.

He's the Director of Athletics, not the Director of Football. Whatever happens to the football program, they won't completely shut down the athletics department. Also, what does he gain by saying something publicly? What would happen if you stood up in front of TV cameras and contradicted your boss? You guys essentially want him to fall on his sword, as if it would do any good (it wouldn't) and sacrifice his job. The man has kids and I would assume mortgage and while he's a UAB alum, this is also his job that I'm sure he'd like to keep.

What will his job look like if they cut football and we drop to a much lower conference? Unless he's cool with the lower profile position and pay cut that he'll have, he has nothing to lose.
And if he does lose it all, he'll look much more desirable to other universities as an AD because he will show that he fights for the benefit of his program.

I want to think there is nothing to this, but Mackin's silence doesn't support that idea. If the President of the University releases a statement but Mackin doesn't. . . Something is going on and past history leads me to be wary.
I am still not very worried, but I am growing more concerned.

I'd love to keep a job that didn't require me to try hard as well. That sounds like a sweet deal.
