Not sure how pertinent this is, but it's the basis - or one of them, for Bryant Junior having an axe to grind against UAB. Page 2 here notes that Gene Bartow sent a letter to the NCAA that strongly suggested Bear Bryant was a cheater...

See if this works?

Intro-

UAB Football is under fire again! The Board of Trustees that is shared by Alabama, UAB, and UAH has a long history of undercutting the step-children programs at UAB and UAH. Notably, they have a history of threatening UAB Football and UAH Hockey. This week, some UAB alumni uncovered a plot by the board and their appointed UAB President Ray Watts to make a move to close down the UAB Football Program, despite UAB's winning record, much improved attendance, and highly popular coach, Bill Clark.

So, who are these trustees? There are 15 of them- 13 of which are Alabama grads, 3 of which are UAB grads (one is a grad of both) and none from UAH! This biased board is in charge of overseeing the three universities. UAB is the cash cow bringing in 74% of the system revenue (nearly $5 billion per year) due to its world class hospital and large number of employees. However, Bama is the original university and it is the athletic showpiece due to its long-famous football program. The board is obviously loyal to this campus, often at the expense of UAB and UAH.

Use this site to read about the unfair treatment of UAB Athletics by this group of "trustees" and see how you can stay engaged as UAB battles for its football program's future.

Note, this struggle is NOT a battle between UAB and Alabama. The struggle is only with an unfair board of trustees. Many Alabama fans and alumni are supportive of UAB having the right to run its own affairs. We want a UAB that is free to be the best it can be without interference. So, we say "Free UAB!"
