Fifth Third Arena Survey
Just got an email from UC for a survey to gauge interest in premium seating for Fifth Third Arena. Seems like they are taking the renovation seriously. Hopefully our responses will push the process along! Also nice to see a proposed rendering:

The student sections seem Assembly Hall-ish. I know it's just a rendering flub, but I would love an all glass ceiling 03-lmfao

RE: Fifth Third Arena Survey
I'm very much in favor or refurbishing 5th/3rd. I took the survey but it was so one sided to the premium side that I was checking the not interested button on a regular basis. I'm an alumnus but don't have the "bread" to get into the type of areas they were offering.

On the football side of things. I checked into getting just 1 club level seat and they were interested in doing it. With the limited area of Nippert I agree with the premium seating but not for basketball.

that rendering looks sweet, but it still looks like there would be the same bad seats in the corners and against the walls

Keep in mind as some move out of nice seats into those premium options then some of the nice seats that people have had for many years will open up. 03-wink Also, with the per seat model coming next year it will help even more for those wanting pairs in nicer locations.

Also, guys keep in mind that this is conceptual drawing. The final product could look much different.

I'm interested to see how they do a remodel, because everything I've been told over the years is that there really isn't much they can do to make 5/3rd "nicer" other than to demo the building and try again.

Senior and I have communicated the contrary multiple times. Look at what the University of Toledo, with a pretty much 80% scale version of 5th/3rd on their campus, Savage Arena, formerly Savage/Centennial Hall, have done to make their arena a VERY nice place to watch a basketball game.

The inside would be pretty much gutted, so yeah a full interior demo.

I've been petitioning DAAP to come up with a design where every seat is at center court in row 1. Every seat would also come with an elevator directly to valet parking.

Campus police have also said that they would program every street signal in the area so you would never need to stop when you are leaving or even when you come into the games at 6:50.

I'll keep you updated when they get a preliminary design for me.

I know there isn't much that can be done about it, but I've always hated how the roof trusses impinge on the view of the court from the upper deck. Even though they don't actually obstruct the view, I find their visual proximity to the court creates a sense of claustrophobia.

Yeah, I had similar thoughts... I find that being literally "up in the rafters" to be uncomfortable.

One consolation is that the utilities are going on the roof from what I have heard and from this rendering.

I hope they angle the seats in the corner to face the center court ala GABP seats facing the pitcher's mound.

That's not all necessary, but if I go to a game, and I sit in my seat, I'd like it to at least face the court. Ever sit in the upper chairbacks near the wall? If not save the smart arse comments.

Not too much to ask to have a basketball arena where all the seats face the court.

I can't always identify sarcasm on the internet. If not sarcasm, what's your proposition?
