Ball State Game Thoughts
The first half was your typical, ugly, NIU half this season, but I thought the second half was as near of a complete half as they posted in a long time.

The defensive coaches deserve huge credit for this game. We blitzed and played more bump and run coverage than we had in a long time. I don't think they respected Milas' ability to throw (or run) for that matter, so they clogged everything inside and said here beat us with your arm. How exactly, that dude lit up WMU, I'll never know. He was terrible. I'm not sure what the D was doing on that drive after the pick 6, but overall you can't complain with their effort at all. It seemed as if everytime they needed a stop or a play on defense, they got it.

Cam in the 4th quarter is just unfair. NIU was not blocking well upfront today, at least early on. 62 carries as a team for only 3.8 YPC, but Cam had 26/148 and 3 scores and he pretty much iced the game in the 4th quarter. Everyone jumped on his back and he brought us home.

Turner had his best game as a Huskie tonight. 4/44 recieving and I think all 4 were on 3rd down for first downs, plus he added in a TD run. He came up huge tonight.

The passing game is such a cluster**** at this point. 31 passes for 149 yards is just pathetic. Hare only had 18 carries for 40 yards as well, and the thing he had been doing well (taking care of the ball), he had two really bad turnovers. What the hell that screen pass was I'll never know. His last two games have been quite frankly terrible. But he's what we have at this point.

Special teams was a lot better. A couple of dumb penalties, but Hagan was perfect on XPs, Wedel punted great, and Orne caused a turnover with whatever the hell that first kick was.

Want to rip on Carey? NIU has outscored Ball State 49-10 in the 2nd half of the two meetings between Lembo and Carey. How terrible must Lembo be?

The offense the rest of the year kind of needs to be what it was in the 2nd half today. Run the ball, take your 3-4 yards, and try to set up Hare in manageable third downs. They came out throwing early today (and it worked) but then kind of got away from the run in the 2nd quarter. Then they went into 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense in the 2nd half and Ball State couldn't get off the field on third down. Ride Cam to Detroit. Just let him grind out his yards and hopefully the dam breaks in the 2nd half like it did today.

Toledo is coming in wounded. It's likely they'll be playing their 3rd string QB. Quite frankly, this is a game I expect to win. Lets go get it.

Go Huskies. 7-2.

+1. I said early on someone else needed to step up this week and he did. He has the talent, just needs to put it together. He could have had more yards but dropped a few. As I keep telling myself he is a true soph and expect big things the rest of this year and the next two.

It was weird how NIU looked more like Ball State than Ball State and Ball State looked more like NIU than NIU (jersey wise).

I feel great after the game tonight. The huskies exceeded my expectations defensively and now I have some confidence going into next week. Looking forward to a HUGE Mac west game in DeKalb!

Toledo may be coming in wounded but in all the games since the 1990's that we have played them they are always dangerous. Toledo is a solid program and no matter who they put on the field NIU will have their hands full.

Everything about the Defense was good, especially in the second half. Except of course Paris Logan who continues to be the worst defender on the field. He's a liability at this point.

FWIW I watched some of the Ohio UB game @halftime and I can see that offense running all over or D. I hope I'm wrong. Oh well one game at a time. On to Turdledo

Great recap as always 7.

Perfect defensive game plan and got big plays at big times out of the guys. 2nd half was the offensive blueprint...pound and pound some more.

That approach gives us a shot at Detroit...tuck Foledo!

RE: Ball State Game Thoughts
Hare has a very tough time gripping the ball and throwing the quick WR screen and the slant passes. I'm not sure if his hands are small or if the colder weather is affecting his grip. In any case, if we expect to win out, he better improve his accuracy and ball handling.

On D we finally did what other teams do against us on the quick routes, have the d-lineman get their hands up and try to block the pass. We had four blocks and and interception because of that.

Yep. If you can't get there, get your hands up!

Unpopular opinion alert:

While I think Da'Ron is really good at getting open, I feel like unless the pass is perfect, he doesn't come up with it. Hare's passes are not often perfect, but rarely do you see Brown make an effort to go down and get a ball that might be a little low, or reach back to try and catch one that's a little behind him.

The one announcer kept on calling the Ball St player as a NIU player. It was definitely amusing.

Seeing them in action I really liked the white helmet with chrome face mask. Really hope we don't see the black helmet with chrome for the next game.

Since we're probably going to be seeing the Dark Dogs, you can probably bet on seeing the chrome masks on black helmets.
