Sure. It's also true that before Hawkins arrived, we'd played in a grand total of two NCAA tournaments - and that our hockey program has never won an NCAA tournament game.
I appreciate that Hawk and Murray, as the faces of our programs, don't feel the need to repeatedly remind us of those truths as they continue to build their programs up.

I don't think he was trying to be, but I think it was a reflection of his angle with the team in general: Get better. Grow. Make this a championship team that does things it's never done before.
Again, if I was his PR rep, I would have told him to kick it off with the accomplishments we HAVE done in a great positive light -- but yeah, following that with the angle that we need to make something here. What NIU has been doing. Let's do something we haven't done ever like win a Bowl, or not in a long long time like win a MACC. We can't sit satisfied at all about what we HAVE done. Let's make something we HAD DONE. And the question is the HOW.... (okay, I'm getting all PJ'd up lol).
Anyway, I think a similar thing was UM coaches coming in and kinda being the same way -- but differently -- seeing OSU or MSU as "another game" or just as important of a game to win as any other, etc. Fans don't like that!

Good story but some of it made me cringe. The 30,000 rowing the boat should have been said..soon we will have or something...but it will take a few years of this to get the chairbacks rowing. Also, as I tip toe around what can be said..there may be a little of do what I say not do in there. That said, there is always a fine line between the delusional and the motivational speaker.

Well, you mean the extra 3,639 fans (our record was 36,361 in 2000). Since then, haven't we added extra room on the corners? Squeeze kids on the hills? Sit on the cheerleaders' laps?
Offering cheerleaders' laps will push the attendance to over 50K. Count me in....female cheerleader please (not that there's anything wrong with the lap of a male cheerleader).

We really don't have to ask "why".
Having said that....he is walking the walk.

Yeah the 30,000 a bit inflated, but that is no big deal.
Like she used to say, fake it til you make it.

I always blow past milestones during gamethreads, and never get the kudos that you can only get by announcing the milestone. FML.

There probably will be over 30,000 fans at the Michigan State game.
So if that is the case, in order to have actually seen that 30k fans rowing in the stands, one would actually have to be able to see into the future. And in fact that would mean that roughly 70k fans were actually in the stadium since from what I have seen the 2/3 of the 15k actually in the stadium remain seated during that time.

Minor details. The guys head works in terms of imaging things being as the should be, and then working to make those things real. Not the way most people's head operates, but we are all different. Some are more different than others.

RE: Sports Illustrated Q&A with Fleck
First we have someone counting the EMU game as a win before the game is even played and now we have the Sports Illustrated curse to worry about. To me, this makes a loss on Saturday a realistic possibility. I hate it when fans looks past an opponent. Nothing good can come from it and in some cases it helps motivate the other team.
I hope the players and coaches are ready for a serrious challenge becasue I suspect there will be one. EMU may not be great, but therese are still D-I athletes we are talking about here.
On the other hand, I could be way off base here.

Well, hopefully the team doesn't have the same mindset as the fans. And they shouldn't. If that was the case, we wouldn't be 6-3 right now. :)
Plus, EMU beat us 3 times in a row. Fleck's a great coach in that he reminds them of 1-11 last year, reminds them of what needs to be accomplished, and that we have a lot of work to do to get to the top.
I think this will be a good test to Fleck's HC skillz. With a bye then playing EMU, with @CMU the week after that -- if we win by a big margin and running on all cylinders. LOOK OUT. We may just take out CMU.
